Diablo 4's Halloween event has loads of tricks and treats to offer.
Blizzard Entertainment has unveiled Diablo 4's 2024 Halloween event, with quite a few spooky limited-time cosmetics to offer players who log in for the duration of the event. It's not all about treats, however - an especially tricky new mechanic has made it so dungeon shrines now behave unpredictably, offering players either a blessing or a curse depending on their luck.
Diablo 4 unveils Meat or Treat Halloween event
You can safely add Diablo 4 to the long list of live-service games hosting Halloween events this year. Despite being a little late to the party, Blizzard's action-RPG will host a week-long Halloween event consisting of free cosmetics and a tricky twist to how in-game Shrines work.
These bonus Shrine effects come courtesy of the Butcher - an infamous Diablo miniboss who appears randomly to make players' lives that much more difficult during a dungeon run. During the Halloween event, dungeon Shrines will offer players a game of luck called Meat or Treat. Upon activation, they can now apply a surprise effect in addition to the usual player buffs. That surprise effect may not necessarily be good - so be wary when activating them.
The event also has more wholesome bonuses in store for players, in addition to its tricky Shrine remixes. From October 29 to November 5, players can claim limited-time cosmetics simply by logging in and checking in the item shop. Here are all the dates you need to keep track of to get new free stuff:
- October 29: The Recluse’s Host Mount
- October 30: Ichorflame Torch Mount Trophy
- October 31: Recluse’s Flask Mount Trophy
- November 1: Reclusive Trappings Mount Armor
Don't worry about missing any of these dates, however. You will still be able to claim any or all of these cosmetics from the shop before they vanish on November 5 - so just make sure to log in by then. As far as Halloween events go, this one isn't quite as packed as one might hope for - but it's a little surprising that Blizzard opted to do one at all this year.
After all, Diablo 4 is in the midst of one of its biggest content drops ever. Earlier this month, the game released its first expansion Vessel of Hatred, inclusive of a new campaign and character class. The expansion dropped alongside an all-new season of content, which makes for a lot of content overall for players to dig into over the next few weeks and then some. This Halloween event makes for a nice little bonus, though.
Diablo 4's Halloween event runs from October 29 to November 5, 2024.
