NVIDIA says Nintendo Switch 2 has "10x the graphics performance" of Nintendo Switch

NVIDIA has announced new details for the Nintendo Switch 2’s specs.

NVIDIA has unveiled more technical specifications for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 console. The gaming technology company designed the Nintendo Switch 2’s GPU, which it describes as having “dedicated RT Cores and Tensor Cores for stunning visuals and AI-driven enhancements.”

In a new post, NVIDIA also revealed that the GPU will help the Nintendo Switch 2 deliver current-gen features like real-time ray tracing, and that the console itself has “10x the graphics performance” of the Nintendo Switch.

NVIDIA spills the beans on Nintendo Switch 2 GPU

Nintendo revealed the Nintendo Switch 2 earlier this week, announcing new features like GameChat and the Joy-Con controllers’ mouse-like capabilities. The company also introduced upcoming Switch 2 games like Donkey Kong Bananza and Mario Kart World. What it didn’t do was dive too deep into the console’s technical specifications, however.

We got a rough outline of its basic features, like the size of its display and refresh rate, but NVIDIA has thankfully supplied more information to that end. NVIDIA stated that the Nintendo Switch 2 features a custom NVIDIA processor, which includes an NVIDIA GPU with “dedicated RT Cores and Tensor Cores.” The company then reiterated that the console will support up to 4K resolution when docked, and up to 120fps at 1080p gameplay in handheld mode.

The console will also support HDR and AI upscaling “to sharpen visuals and smooth gameplay.” Interestingly, NVIDIA also confirmed that the console will feature real-time ray tracing thanks to the processor’s RT Cores, delivering “lifelike lighting, reflections and shadows for more immersive worlds.” The Tensor Cores will also power AI features like Deep Learning Super Sampling (better known as DLSS), which increases in-game resolution.

The very same cores will also be used in GameChat video, to enable face tracking and background removal. The console will also feature “10x the graphics performance of the Nintendo Switch,” according to NVIDIA. NVIDIA G-SYNC will also allow for variable refresh rate in handheld mode (allowing for better 40fps gaming).
