Supergiant Games has dropped its first major update for Hades 2, which is currently in early access on PC platforms. Hades 2 receives first major content update with even more story content
Supergiant Games’ roguelike action game sequel Hades 2 has finally dropped its first major content update - and rather out of nowhere, too. The so-called ‘Olympic Update’ is as hefty as it sounds, with a list of patch notes numbering over 3,500 words. It adds new layers of content to pretty much every aspect of Melinoe’s quest to slay Chronos, including a new weapon, more allies, more enemies and a new region - among others.
The big ticket item of the Olympic Update is in its name: Olympus, the home of the Greek gods, is now explorable for Melinoe as she grinds her way to Chronos. Olympus itself consists of multiple different locations, and new locations have also been added to the game’s existing regions. According to the update’s trailer, some of these new locations may house secrets for players to dig up.
Melinoe is also getting a new weapon called Xinth’s Black Coat to play with, and two new animal familiars - a dog and a raven - to befriend. Two new Olympians have also arrived to bestow their Boons upon Melinoe, granting her powerful abilities to aid in her quest. Both return from the first game, too: Dionysus, who now sports a fashionable banana hammock, and Athena, who appears more battle-ready than ever. With Athena’s arrival, players finally have access to a fan-favourite Boon from the first game: Divine Dash, which allows players to deflect enemy attacks while dashing.
That’s not all, however. New story content has been added to the game featuring some 2,500 additional voice lines, some of which will have to do with a new foe Melinoe has to strike down: Prometheus, voiced by Final Fantasy 16’s Ben Starr. You can read this update’s full patch notes here, or simply have a listen to a ‘dramatic reading’ released by Supergiant itself, voiced by game narrator Logan Cunningham:
Hades 2 is expected to have a full release sometime in 2025.
