Game director Hideo Kojima showed off new footage from Death Stranding 2 at Tokyo Game Show.

Developer Kojima Productions dropped by Tokyo Game Show to show off lots of new gameplay footage for its upcoming sequel Death Stranding 2: On The Beach. Game director Hideo Kojima attended a ‘Death Stranding 2 Special Stage’ presentation along with the game’s Japanese cast to show off new mechanics from the sequel, including a strangely detailed photo mode and a musical sequence.

Death Stranding 2 shows off gameplay features in new footage

Kojima Productions, led by game director Hideo Kojima dropped by Tokyo Game Show 2024 to show off more gameplay footage for their highly-anticipated open-world game Death Stranding 2: On The Beach. The first clip sees Sam Porter Bridges (Norman Reedus), returning from the first game in black-and-white for unknown reasons, being led around a ship by Fragile (Lea Seydoux). There, he meets Tarman (George Miller/Marty Rhone) and a sentient puppet named Dollman (Fatih Akin/Jonathan Roumie).

A second gameplay video introduces Tomorrow (Elle Fanning) and Rainy (Shioli Kutsuna), two new characters joining Sam on a new, as-yet unknown adventure. It looks like they’re also working in the same base as Tarman from the previous video, and Rainy is noted to be pregnant. Another gameplay video reveals a returning character from the first game: Heartman (Nicolas Winding Refn/Darren Jacobs), who has a new exosuit to help him deal with constant heart failure.

A fourth gameplay video shows off a rather unusual photo mode, which sees characters like Fragile, Rainy and Tomorrow reacting to the camera in real time by moving around, dancing and posing for Sam’s camera. According to Hideo Kojima, this will somehow be relevant to the in-game story as well.

The final gameplay video features Japanese musician Daichi Miura, who will also be featured in Death Stranding 2 in some capacity. This video shows off a musical sequence where he performs a new song with several Dollman dancers accompanying him on stage.

According to Hideo Kojima, Death Stranding will launch sometime in 2025 on the PlayStation 5 - but its exact release date will only be revealed next year. You can watch the full Death Stranding 2 Tokyo Game Show stream below:
