Overwatch 2 Season 12 is a sizable content drop themed after Egyptian Mythology.

Blizzard Entertainment is going big with Overwatch 2’s twelfth season of content, titled New Frontiers. Despite its sci-fi-leaning name however, this season is mostly themed after deities from Egyptian Mythology. It also adds a truckload of content, including the all-new Support hero Juno and two maps for a new game mode called Clash.

The Clash game mode reworks old Assault maps, specifically Temple of Anubis and Hanamura from the original game, with a new five-objective capture format. Here’s a trailer for Season 12, which also teases an upcoming World of Warcraft crossover:

Overwatch 2 Season 12 teases World of Warcraft crossover and more

Blizzard Entertainment has unveiled a content-heavy Season 12 for Overwatch 2, with a new battle pass themed after Egyptian Mythology. This season’s battle pass is headlined by a Mythic skin for Reaper inspired by the Egyptian god Anubis. More skins are available in the battle pass and in-game shop for heroes like Doomfist, Illari, Sigma, and Kiriko among others. Nothing for Venture this season, sadly.

Season 12: New Frontiers gets its name from the all-new space explorer hero Juno, a Support character whose ability kit revolves around healing her teammates and buffing their mobility. Interestingly, she was first revealed at BlizzCon 2023 alongside recent heroes Mauga and Venture, and the last to be released. We are now fully in the dark about the game’s plans for future heroes, which hasn’t been the case for almost a year.

Season 12 also heralds the return of classic Overwatch 1 maps Hanamura and Temple of Anubis - with a twist. Both maps have received significant reworks, and will return under a new game mode called Clash. Clash is in itself a rework of the original game’s controversial Assault game mode, now featuring five objective points in total for players to capture in mirrored maps. Hanamura is now Hanaoka, and Temple of Anubis is now called Throne of Anubis.

The tail end of the trailer also teases an upcoming crossover with Blizzard’s World of Warcraft, in anticipation of the MMORPG’s The War Within expansion this year. The trailer ends with the sudden appearance of Frostmourne, the rune blade of Prince Arthas Menethil - attached to what seems to be a new Reinhardt skin.

Xbox Game Pass subscribers are also getting a one-time free bundle of cosmetics and 30 Mythic Prisms upon login from September 17 to October 21. Also coming this season are balance changes for heroes like Lifeweaver, a universal Competitive rank reset, and the return of Overwatch 2’s Anniversary events.
