Ghost of Tsushima has beaten Marvel’s Spider-Man and God of War (2018) to become PlayStation’s biggest debut on Steam.
Sucker Punch Productions’ open-world hit Ghost of Tsushima has become PlayStation’s biggest single player debut for a PC game on Steam ever. The game was ported to PC by Nixxes Software and released on Steam last week, after which it quickly beat God of War (2018) and Marvel’s Spider-Man in concurrent player numbers.
Ghost of Tsushima is a hit on PC, but where’s the sequel?
Sucker Punch Productions’ 2020 action-adventure game initially debuted in 2020 on the PlayStation 4, before receiving a remaster and expansion for the PlayStation 5 in 2021. Despite its current availability on two different console generations, the game’s PC debut on Steam has already drawn a rather large audience, reaching a peak concurrent player count of 77,000 over the last week.
That makes Ghost of Tsushima PlayStation’s biggest single player PC launch on Steam ever, beating out God of War (2018), which had 73,000 concurrent players, and Marvel’s Spider-Man, which had 66,000 concurrent players. Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West also had 56,000 and 40,000 peak concurrent players respectively.
It should be noted that while Ghost of Tsushima has become PlayStation’s biggest single player game on Steam, the publisher’s most successful PC launch remains to be Helldivers 2. The multiplayer shooter enjoyed 458,000 concurrent players at its peak, far exceeding those of the publisher’s other titles. It’s obvious why: the game was a Day One release on Steam unlike PlayStation’s other ports, which took years to arrive on the platform.
Still, it’s an impressive feat for Ghost of Tsushima - especially since multiple regions around the globe can’t access its online co-op game mode due to PlayStation’s new PSN requirements. While Helldivers 2 eventually rolled back said PSN requirements on Steam due to immense controversy, Ghost of Tsushima still requires that players sign up for a PSN account to play its multiplayer mode.
Sucker Punch Productions has yet to reveal its long-rumoured sequel to Ghost of Tsushima, but a PlayStation Showcase reportedly taking place by the end of May could give us a first look at the game.
