Cyberpunk 2077 maker CD Projekt RED partners with Scopely for new game

The game will be based on one of CD Projekt RED's existing IPs, which could either be The Witcher or Cyberpunk.

A new collaboration has been announced between The Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt RED and Saudi-owned mobile game developer (and new owners of Pokémon GO) Scopely.

CD Projekt RED shared the news during a 2024 financial report presentation. Details regarding the collaboration with Scopely remain scarce for now.

The game will be based on a CD Projekt RED IP

During the announcement, the presenter simply stated that it had "entered into a strategic partnership with Scopely to develop a game set within one of CD Projekt's IPs." While this strongly hints at a mobile title based on The Witcher or Cyberpunk 2077, nothing is confirmed until more information surfaces.

When asked about the project and its release timeline during the Q&A portion of the report, CD Projekt joint CEO Michal Nowakowski declined to provide further details.

Scopely is a leader in mobile gaming, best known for Monopoly Go as its main IP, alongside Marvel Strike Force, Star Trek Fleet Command, and Stumble Guys.

Recently, the Saudi-owned company reached an agreement to acquire Niantic’s gaming division, which includes mobile ARG success Pokémon GO and other ARG games, including Pikmin Bloom, Monster Hunter Now, and their respective development teams. The deal was valued at approximately US$3.85 billion.

This means the new project is most likely a mobile game, although Scopely owner Savvy had reportedly expressed interest to expand into the PC and console gaming space in the future

CD Projekt Red has released several mobile games based on The Witcher, including GWENT: The Witcher Card Game, Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales, and the now-defunct The Witcher: Monster Slayer (shut down in 2023). Currently, there are no mobile games that use the Cyberpunk IP.

The financial earnings presentation also shared progress on the highly anticipated game, The Witcher 4, The Witcher 1 remake, and other projects like the Cyberpunk game under Project Orion, and Project Hadar, which will be a game based on a new IP.
