Overwatch 2 Season 2 trailer reveals new game mode, map and Greek Mythology skins

Overwatch 2’s second season of content will add a new Battle for Olympus mode and two holiday events, along with a bounty of new skins.

Season 2 of Overwatch 2 launches next week, and Blizzard has finally revealed all the new content it contains. It’s a pretty big content drop overall, featuring a new Battle for Olympus mode, skins themed after Greek gods, an escort map called Shambali Monastery, a new tank called Ramattra and a bunch of long-awaited Hero balance changes. And yes, that means Sojourn nerfs are finally coming.

Watch the trailer below:

Overwatch 2’s first season had a pretty flimsy Cyberpunk theme, which only barely covered a few skins in the Battle Pass and shop. Season 2 seems to double down on its theme by comparison, focusing on gods and mythical monsters from Greek Mythology. Season 2’s Battle Pass features a new Mythic skin for Junker Queen, transforming her into a customisable version of the thunder god Zeus with unique voice lines and special effects. The Battle Pass will also include Poseidon Ramattra and Hades Pharah skins, but that seems to be the end of the Greek-inspired skins in the pass itself. The rest, like Minotaur Reinhardt and Medusa Widowmaker, will presumably be paid skins in the shop.

Aside from the skins, Season 2 will also bring us a new limited-time game mode called Battle for Olympus, which runs from January 5 to January 19. We have very few details on how this game mode works, but Blizzard teases that upcoming skins will give players a clue as to what they can expect. Season 2 will also bring back the Winter Wonderland event from December 13 to January 4 and Lunar New Year event from January 17 to February 1, both with free skins available via completing challenges. Unfortunately, these are old skins - but we can’t have it all, I suppose.

Now for those balance changes: Sojourn is getting nerfed. This should be unsurprising news for anyone who’s been playing Overwatch PvP at higher Competitive ranks, where the hero has been dominating matches with her lethal one-shot Rail Gun. Doomfist is also receiving ‘significant changes’ to improve his survivability on the front line. Other heroes like Ana, Bastion, Junker Queen, Kiriko, Mercy and Symmetra will also receive adjustments when the update lands. We’ll have to wait for full patch notes over the coming days to see how drastic these changes are.

In case you missed it, this season is also adding a new hero to the roster: Ramattra, an old friend of Zenyatta’s who now leads the Null Sector. Ramattra is an Omnic Tank who can attack through shields and transform into a hulking, higher-health version of himself on a cooldown. He’s got one of the most complex ability kits in the game, but already seems on the verge of being overpowered if he’s not balanced well at launch. Ramattra launches with a new Escort map connected to his backstory, called Shambali Monastery. In this map, players will escort a payload up a winding path in the one-time home of Zenyatta and Ramattra.

Speaking of maps, say goodbye to Hollywood and Watchpoint: Gibraltar. Season 2 will rotate these maps out of the map pool and reintroduce Rialto and Blizzard World for all modes. Oasis and Nepal will also have new time-of-day visuals. If you missed out on unlocking Kiriko in Season 1, you can check out new Hero Challenges to unlock her for your roster or just buy her from the in-game shop. Overwatch 2 Season 2 launches on December 6.
