Evil Geniuses will compete at ESL One Birmingham Major

The North American giants have received the third direct invite to participate in ESL One Birmingham Major scheduled to take place in May as the Pro Circuit 2017-2018 season will be winding down.

Evil Geniuses may not have secured a direct invite to TI8 yet but their performances and results as of late are inching them close and ESL has taken notice. The team is confirmed to be joining the ranks of Virtus.pro and Newbee as one of six honored to close out the ESL One Major LAN season.

An ESL One trophy and championship title have eluded EG —although coming close several times with 2nd place finishes at ESL One Frankfurt 2014, ESL One New York 2014, ESL One Frankfurt 2015. They have also taken several top 6 finishes in the last year.

So far the former TI champions have been unsuccessful at securing themselves an ESL One trophy this season, but they’ve had encouraging results with 3 finishes in the Top 6. Will ESL One Birmingham be their ticket to TI8?

Evil Geniuses are sitting at rank 7 in the race for TI8 qualifying points  —just a handful of points between them and falling out of point contention. For the North Americans, DAC 2018 and ESL One Birmingham are their last hope of the season to secure their invite —unless they can secure a place at the last event, the Super Major in China.

The 12 team tournament has a prize pool of 1$ Million and 1500 Pro Circuit points and is scheduled to begin on the 23rd of May.
