The mockup seems to align with the rumours around the Switch 2's dimensions and features.
A video game accessory maker is showcasing what it claims to be an accurate replica of Nintendo’s Switch 2 console at CES 2025 in Las Vegas, which began on 8 January. The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is a premier event typically held each year to host presentations of cutting-edge products and technologies in the consumer electronics industry.
One of the booths that got the most attention was video game accessory maker Genki, whose items on exhibit included an alleged mockup of the Nintendo Switch 2. The company claimed its design was based on the actual console, attracting significant interest from attendees and the press.
In a social media post on X (formerly Twitter), French publication Numerama shared a video of the dummy model. The replica was said to be used to demonstrate the controllers and docking station that Genki has in the works for the Nintendo Switch 2.
Genki alleges that the mockup matches the “exact dimension” of the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. To add to the intrigue, the company has updated its website with a new video that highlights its accessories, including a glimpse of the purported Switch 2 dock and logo.
This isn’t the first time an accessory maker has shared what the console would supposedly look like. In the past month, while advertising their respective peripherals, Dbrand has shared the “Killswitch 2” for the Nintendo Switch 2, and Satisfye has shown off designs for the Switch 2. On top of that, tons of leaks are abound on Reddit, including a look at what’s said to be the Switch 2’s motherboard and a few images of the Switch 2’s alleged dock.
Finally, most recently, a listing on Amazon Japan had accidentally shared how the Nintendo Switch 2 might look like. The listing has since been removed, but not before keen-eyed netizens have taken screenshots.
In a report by IGN, the Genki representative at CES shared that the company believed it wasn’t sharing anything new, and said that it “didn’t expect this much media attention, to be honest."
What features of the Nintendo Switch 2 were allegedly confirmed?
Genki’s representative shared several supposed details about the Switch 2, including:
- New Joy-Con controllers that attach to the system via magnets on the console side, with metallic SL/SR buttons on the Joy-Cons. These can be released using a button on the back of each Joy-Con.
- The new console appears to fit physically into the original Nintendo Switch dock, though certain indentations prevent it from functioning in the Switch 1 dock.
- Existing Joy-Cons won’t physically attach to the new console, but Genki is "assuming" they will still work as wireless controllers. Other accessory manufacturers appear to share this expectation.
- The mockup of the right Joy-Con features a new "C" button. While some accessory makers speculate it might be camera-related, its actual function remains unconfirmed, as does the presence of a camera on the console.
An additional USB port at the top of the Switch 2 was noted. This could potentially be used for handheld charging "at minimum," although it’s unclear if the console can be docked upside down.
Genki's mockup aligns with many of the recent rumours and leaks about Nintendo's next console. As the frequency of leaks and rumours grows, an official Switch 2 announcement seems increasingly likely. However, until Nintendo provides a formal reveal, these details remain speculative. Fans might only have to wait until March 2025 at latest for confirmation—assuming Nintendo’s expected reveal timeline holds true.
A formal announcement is expected by March 2025, per Nintendo. In the meantime, here's everything we know so far about the Nintendo Switch 2, based on all the available information.
