Team Spirit welcomes back three of its former members, though this reunion came with a difficult decision.
Team Spirit dropped an exciting announcement regarding its Dota 2 roster on Monday (January 6), revealing the return of three iconic members to the roster for 2025. Carry player Illya “yatoro” Mulyarchuk, offlaner Magomed “Collapse” Khalilov, and coach Airat “Silent” Gaziev, who all took a hiatus from the competitive scene following The International (TI) 2024, have officially rejoined Team Spirit’s Dota 2 lineup.
Team Spirit’s Dota 2 roster for 2025 is as follows:
- Illya “yatoro” Mulyarchuk
- Denis “Larl” Sigitov
- Magomed “Collapse” Khalilov
- Aleksandr “rue” Filin
- Yaroslav “Miposhka” Naidenov
- Airat “Silent” Gaziev (coach)
Collapse and Silent's return was expected, as both had planned to take a break until the start of the new year. During their absence, Abdimalik “Malik`” Sailau stepped in for the offlaner while Alexander “Accell” Litvinenko temporarily filled the role of coach.
Yatoro returns from indefinite break, Satanic benched
In contrast to the two members, Yatoro's return was an unexpected surprise, even for Spirit themselves. Just three months ago, the young Ukrainian had announced a loss of motivation for the game and decided to take an indefinite break.
To fill his shoes, Spirit brought in their long-kept prodigy, Alan “Satanic” Gallyamov. Over the past few months, Satanic emerged as a standout performer, quickly becoming a key player for the team. Despite Spirit's progress in grooming him to be the next star carry, his journey with the active roster now faces an abrupt pause.
With Yatoro ready to compete again, Team Spirit was forced to make a difficult decision. The team’s manager, Dmitry "Korb3n" Belov, shared his thoughts on the matter:
"[Yatoro] has also returned to us. He didn’t plan it, but it happened. Such a quick return of [Yatoro] was a surprise for us, and we had to make a hard choice. The choice was made in favor of a more experienced and mature player, in favor of a legend in the organization."
As Yatoro reclaims his position as the team’s carry, Satanic has been placed as a substitute. Korben further expressed regret over the decision, even referencing Murphy's Law that famously states ‘anything that can go wrong, will go wrong’.
"It’s a real shame to part with [Satanic] — he’s a unique player with youthful enthusiasm who was not given a chance to fully blossom because of Murphy’s Law and various circumstances."
Nonetheless, Team Spirit’s current Dota 2 roster appears undeniably formidable. Their next challenge will be the Eastern European Closed Qualifier for the upcoming DreamLeague Season 25, set to begin on January 7.
