G2 Esports, Fnatic survive the lower bracket at VALORANT Masters Toronto

Meanwhile, XLG and Rex Regeum Qeon make an early exit from the Playoffs.

The pressure ramped up at VALORANT Masters Toronto as G2 Esports, XLG Esports, Rex Regum Qeon, and Fnatic fought to keep their tournament hopes alive and secure a spot in the lower bracket semifinals. By the end of the day, it was G2 who moved past XLG with a clean 2-0 victory, while Fnatic edged out RRQ in a 2-1 series.

All four of these teams initially entered the Playoffs as top seeds from their respective regions, but each fell to the lower bracket after losses in the upper bracket quarterfinals. G2 were swept 2-0 by Pacific third seed Paper Rex, while XLG suffered the same fate at the hands of Americas second seed Sentinels. RRQ were also handed a 2-0 loss by Wolves Esports, the second seed from China. Fnatic, meanwhile, were narrowly defeated 2-1 by Gen.G Esports in a tense three-map clash.

Here’s how the lower bracket matches played out:

G2 eliminate XLG with a 2-0 win

G2 Esports swept XLG 2-0 to survive the lower bracket.

While G2 were knocked into the lower bracket early, their match against XLG proved they still have plenty of firepower. They came out swinging on Icebox, opening the first half with a commanding 10-2 lead before swiftly shutting down the map 3-1 in the second half to take game one, 13-3.

XLG showed more resistance on Haven, keeping the first half close at 7-5. But G2 maintained their composure and took over in the second half 6-3, closing out the map 13-8 and securing the series sweep.

G2 will continue their lower bracket run in the Quarterfinals on 17 June at 9:00 AM PST / 18 June at 12:00 AM SGT.

Fnatic dispatch RRQ in a 2-1 battle

Fnatic prevailed against RRQ 2-1 at the Lower Bracket Stage 1.

The second series of the day went the distance, with Fnatic and RRQ trading blows across three maps. Fnatic started strong on Lotus, overwhelming RRQ 9-3 in the first half and finishing the map 13-5 after controlling the second half.

RRQ answered back with a dominant showing of their own on Haven, taking the first half 10-2 and closing the map out efficiently in just three rounds of the second half, 13-2. It all came down to Ascent, where Fnatic regained momentum with a powerful 9-3 start. They kept the pressure on to wrap up the series with a 4-2 second half, taking the final map 13-5.

Fnatic now advance to the Lower Bracket Quarterfinals on 17 June at 12:00 PM PST / 18 June at 3:00 AM SGT.

Meanwhile, XLG and RRQ bow out of the competition in 7th to 8th place, taking home US$35,000 in consolation.
