Meanwhile, T1 and Liquid lost their matches against Vitality and EDward Gaming in the first round, which forced them into an elimination match in Round 2. However, T1 survived after dominating Chinese team Trace Esports while Liquid managed to upset tournament favourites Sentinels.

T1 exact revenge on DRX

T1 are VCT Pacific’s second seed and with the way DRX looked during VCT Pacific Kickoff and in Round 1 of Master’s Bangkok, T1 was up against a seemingly impossible challenge. However, the South Korean team has proven everyone wrong by display the ability adjust and think on their feet, catching their opponents off-guard at the most crucial time, and exacting revenge for their VCT Pacific Kickoff finals loss against DRX.

In the first game on Fracture, DRX quickly made work of the first half taking 7 rounds, although T1 did not fail to counter with 5 wins of their own. However, in the second half, T1 started to figure out their opponents and overtook them with an 8-4 score in the second half, to win the first game with a 13-11 score.

In the second game on Pearl, it was T1 that took advantage of their momentum, winning the first half 8-4. T1 continued to catch their opponents off guard and finished the second half with a clean 5-0, to win the second game 13-4, and win the series to qualify for the Playoffs.

G2 sweep Team Liquid

In the first map on Haven, G2 were able to outplay their European opponents quickly in the first half, finishing with an 8-4 scoreline. Then in the second half, the North American team barely gave Team Liquid any room to mount a comeback, winning the second half 5-1, to win the first game 13-5.

In the second map on Lotus however, Team Liquid showed that they were not willing to go home just yet, keeping tow to tow with G2’s scoreline, with the first half ending with a 6-6 tie. However, G2 switched it up in the second half, overpowering Team Liquid on every turn, and taking 7 wins against Team Liquid’s 1 to win the second game with a 13-7 scoreline, and to win the series.

With their win, both T1 and G2 Esports will be joining EDward Gaming and Team Vitality in the Playoffs, where they will first be placed in the upper bracket semifinals, for a chance to make it to the VCT Masters Bangkok Finals and claim the first international VCT title of the year.

Meanwhile, DRX and Team Liquid bow out of the competition in 5th-6th place, taking home $15,000 in consolation.
