Despite an abrupt change in venue, this year's Ascension tournament for the Pacific is set to kick off in late September.
VALORANT developer Riot Games has confirmed that the Britama Areana will serve as the venue for the 2024 VALORANT Champions Tour (VCT) Ascension Jakarta from September 20 to 29. In addition, ticket sales for the tournament are set to open on September 1.
The Britama Areana is an indoor sporting arena located in the Kelapa Gading sub-district of North Jakarta with a seating capacity of 5,000. This venue will host 10 teams from all across the Pacific region as they fight for the chance to join the main Pacific League next year. While the tournament's prize pool has yet to be announced, it is expected to be around the same figure as last year's pot of $100,000.
The 2024 VCT Ascension Pacific was originally announced to be held in Tokyo, Japan back in July. However, the venue was moved to Jakarta, Indonesia earlier this month “due to a number of significant event production delays and tournament quality concerns”. With the change in venue, the tournament was also rescheduled from September 13 to 23, to September 20 to 29.
Riot also revamped the format for Ascension Jakarta into a double-elimination bracket that will be played across eight days of competition. While all 10 competing teams have been seeded to the upper bracket, four will start in the first round while the remaining six received direct byes to the upper bracket quarterfinals.
Just like most other top-tier VALORANT competitions, all matches in Ascension Jakarta will be a best-of-three except for the lower bracket finals and the grand finals, both of which will be full best-of-five series.
The 10 teams competing in Ascension Jakarta are comprised of the winners of the VCT Challenger leagues in the South Korea, Japan, Hong Kong & Taiwan, the Philippines, Malaysia & Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Oceania, and South Asia.
