FUT Esports successfully overcame Fnatic with a 2-1 victory to continue their run in the tournament.
FUT Esports proved why they are a force to be reckoned with as they defeated the EMEA's champion and first seed of the region, Fnatic, with a 2-1 scoreline. This meant Fnatic were eliminated from the tournament, and FUT will continue their run in the lower bracket.
Fnatic, once a favourite to win the tournament, had a shaky start when they took a loss against their pick, Gen.G Esports, in the upper bracket quarter-finals. With their lives on the line, Fnatic wouldn't have another chance in Masters Shanghai if they lost against fellow EMEA representative, FUT Esports.
The third seed of EMEA, FUT Esports, couldn't overcome the champion of VCT 2024: Americas Stage 1, 100 Thieves, to progress in the upper bracket. Their loss forced them to confront another EMEA representative to continue their run in the tournament. The all-Turkish lineup needed to defy the odds once again.
In the first half of Split, FUT Esports must show their opposition why they chose this map and make a statement against the champion of VCT 2024: EMEA Stage 1. However, it didn't go how FUT wanted it to be, as Fnatic showed why they are the champion and took the first half with a 7-5 lead moving into the second half.
It was all going downhill for the third seed of EMEA as Fnatic didn't give them any chance to breathe, as they succumbed to a continuous five-round loss. Fnatic ended the match 13-5 and got the advantage going into their pick, Lotus.
Proving they were there to stay, FUT Esports ran against their region champion in the first half. With all their mechanical prowess, Fnatic couldn't make any play as they were being read like a book by Cned and the boys in FUT. The first half ended with FUT Esports getting a 9-3 lead.
The story in the second half didn't differ too much. FUT lost the pistol and bonus rounds before regaining their composure. A three-round win forced FUT to a timeout, and it proved to be a crucial pause as FUT Esports halted Fnatic's momentum and finished the map 13-8.
The last map to decide both teams' fate in the tournament was Ascent. Both teams must rely on their map knowledge to continue their tournament run. However, FUT Esports were the ones that put their foot on the pedal, as they dismantled the champion's play to lead 9-3 in the first half.
The second half was all about FUT Esports, as Fnatic had no chance to open their play. I thoroughly read all their moves, and even a timeout didn't help either, as Fnatic desperately tried to rush their play, which backfired on them.
FUT Esports will continue their run in Masters Shanghai. Fnatic, unfortunately, couldn't proceed any longer as they were eliminated from the tournament and can refocus their effort into the VCT 2024: EMEA Stage 2 to qualify for VALORANT Champions 2024.
