Gen.G and G2 advanced to playoff in Masters Shanghai day 3

Gen.G and G2 Esports completed their comeback in VCT Masters Shanghai swiss stage day 3 to advance.

Gen.G Esports completed their adventure in the swiss stage, advancing to the playoffs. FunPlus Phoenix, on the other hand, needs to win one more match to advance, or they will be eliminated from the tournament. G2 Esports, in the other series, succeeded in mustering a comeback against Team Heretics to secure a playoff spot in the tournament.

FPX, the home team, was the crowd's favourite to win the series going into the match. The VCT China representative looked strong as they clutched a victory against a strong FUT Esports on day one. However, Gen.G wasn't a team to brush off either, as they could win and mount a comeback against Leviatan.

On Lotus, it seems momentum was with the home team as they crushed Gen.G in the first half of the match. A dominating 10-2 score looked grim for the APAC representative. However, Gen.G proved what a team can do in the first half can be returned in the second half as they pushed FPX into a 12-12 deuce, taking them to overtime. Ultimately, the China representative got their crucial first map with a 16-14 score.

On Sunset, both teams started strong as they went into a 6-6 half. FPX began to act as a defender, and Gen.G was attacking. However, momentum shifted when the role was reversed. Gen.G looked as hungry as a wolf, especially t3xture. His Jett was dancing, swinging, and flashing around the map like a tail of the wind. The duelist dominated the map and closed it at a 13-7 score.

There was little doubt in FPX's play in Ascent as they were trying to secure an excellent score playing as the attacker. Gen.G, however, could still get an 8-4 coming into the second half. FPX got a little momentum as the defender, as Ascent was notorious for being harder to breach as an attacker. However, every momentum was thwarted with a tremendous tactical timeout to regain some composure. At last, Gen.G was able to close the map 13-11 and secure the first playoff spot from the Swiss stage.

In the other series, G2 Esports met with a prime Team Heretics. G2 Esports was able to thwart the APAC representative T1 in a gruelling, nail-biting, and intense 2-1 victory. On the other hand, Team Heretics breezed through Dragon Ranger Gaming in a 2-0 win over the third VCT China's representative. G2 Esports, as the newly promoted team, needed to prove their worth to the world.

Starting in Lotus, the Team Heretics pick, the EMEA representative secured an early advantage to G2 Esports in the first half, taking an 8-4 half playing as the defender. However, the VCT Americas runner-up matched Team Heretics' momentum slightly before getting shut down. In the end, Team Heretics closed the map with a 13-9 victory courtesy of Benjyfishy and Riens' masterclass.

Things got slightly out of hand for Team Heretics on Bind as G2 Esports stormed through them. Icy and his team showed their opponent why they chose the map, as they destroyed Team Heretics in a 9-3 half. Things didn't get better for the VCT EMEA runner-up in the second half as an attempt to build momentum for themselves got dismissed and G2 finished with a 13-6 score.

G2 started as the attacker on the decider and completely dismantled Team Heretics. Another 9-3 half was on their hand again. A little something with the score that made every viewer believe Team Heretics could mount a comeback. However, G2 Esports thwarted that belief after defeating their opponent 13-9. G2 Esports joined 100 Thieves in the playoff.
