Sentinels started strong at AfreecaTV VALORANT League after defeating Paper Rex.
Sentinels showcased their prowess during the opening match of the AfreecaTV VALORANT League. The team pitted against Paper Rex.
The highly anticipated matchup brought the fans to the edge of their seats. Sentinels showed their dominance early on as they chalked up nine rounds in the first half of Breeze.
Paper Rex had a hard time infiltrating the defenses of Sentinels. They eliminated Sentinel’s firepower but lost several key team fights. The game ended 13-7 in favor of Sentinels.
Paper Rex recognized the momentum of Sentinels and they brought in their star player Wang "Jinggg" Jing Jie. He substituted Cahya "Monyet" Nugraha and took the Duelist role in the next game.
The power move proved to be the right decision as Paper Rex turned the table around in Game 2. Sentinels found themselves in a huge deficit after the first half as they scored only three rounds.
Paper Rex continued to assert their aggression as they closed the game in a 13-7 fashion.
During the last game, the battle was neck-and-neck between the two teams. Sentinels were backed against the wall in the first half but they were able to claw out of the deficit during the second half.
The game pushed to overtime as they set the stage for an exhilarating back-and-forth affair. Paper Rex failed to make some calls and missed some defensive opportunities. Sentinels punished their misplays and finally closed the series. Sentinels was able to redeem their glory in the LAN stage.
What is AfreecaTV VALORANT League?
AfreecaTV VALORANT League is a part of Riot’s OFF//SEASON tournament for 2023. It is an initiative where Riot partnered with different tournament organizers all over the world to provide show matches, open qualifier events, and LAN events in between VCT Season.
Six teams were invited to the tournament namely DRX, EDward Gaming, Paper Rex, Sentinels, Team Liquid, and T1. Meanwhile, FULL SENSE and Fancy United Esports qualified through regional qualifiers.
The tournament is happening in Seoul, Korea with a prize pool of $80,000. The AfreecaTV VALORANT League will run until December 10.
