Team SMG has revealed that the four-duelist pick is a mistake on their part.
Team SMG battled it out against Evil Geniuses GC in the opening match of the VCT Game Changers Championship 2023. The team took the VALORANT community by storm after an eccentric four-duelist pick.
In a post-game interview, Odella “enerii” Abraham revealed that their agent composition during the opening map was a wrong draft. The match marked Team SMG’s debut game in a LAN tournament. This is the main reason why the team is not used to the standard procedures for LAN events.
The team thought that the drafting phase was part of a dry run or rehearsal before the actual game. This is the real reason behind the surprising four duelists and enerii’s Cypher. They did not elaborate if this was a miscommunication on the part of the staff, but there's surely a gap that happened that resulted to Team SMG's wrong assumption.
The match ended with an impressive 13-3 score. Team SMG definitely followed through despite their mistake.
The revelation both shocked and impressed fans at the same time. The quick adaptability of Team SMG to the dire situation proved that their mental is strong enough to face any challenges.
Their unique draft might be jaw-dropping but the way they dominated Evil Geniuses with these agents left the audience in awe. Enerii recorded a KDA of 21/6/7 which only proves that she is not just a good duelist but she can play other agents just as well.
The panelists and pro players have commended Team SMG for pulling off a unique line-up. The community initially thought that this was part of an elaborate plan to play mind games against their opponents.
However, it turns out that this is just an honest mistake on their part and they just winged it.
The community also weighed in on the fiasco that went down during Team SMG’s match. They were compared to Paper Rex who are also known for pulling off out-of-the-box agent line-ups.
Wang “Jinggg” Jing Jie took to Twitter and posted about the surprise draft as well.
