FunPlus Phoenix walks out of VALORANT Champions 2023 after a series loss against T1.
FunPlus Phoenix made an early exit at VALORANT Champions 2023 after losing to T1. FPX had a rough start at the group stage as they faced the American powerhouse team, Evil Geniuses.
EG won the opening series unscathed and knocked off FPX to the do-or-die round against T1. The team went on to take the first playoffs spot for Group B.
FPX and T1 duked it out for a chance to advance to the decider match and take the last playoffs seat. T1 managed to come out on top after a 2-0 clean sweep against FPX.
FPX picked Lotus as the battleground of the opening game. T1 took an early lead after the team won the pistol round but FPX retaliated with three consecutive round wins.
The game went on and the teams were going on a back-and-forth affair. FunPlus Phoenix drew a couple of rounds in their favor ultimately ending the first half in a 7-5 fashion.
T1 was quick to bounce back during the second half. They did not let FPX move to 10 as they scored seven consecutive round wins. They drew out a match point and FPX couldn’t stop the Korean team from sealing the game.
T1 breezed through the second game of the elimination matchup. The team was on a huge advantage as they chalked out two to three rounds for every one round win of FPX.
The first half heavily favored T1 as they closed it with a 9-3 score. FPX engineered a runback and tried to claw out of the deficit.
FPX won significant rounds and pushed the game to 7-10. However, T1 finally broke the streak and closed out the game. Unfortunately, FPX ended their tournament run without a single map win.
T1 will face FUT Esports in a do-or-die match as a last chance to secure a seat on the playoffs table. The playoffs will start on August 16, 2023.
