Deadlock will bring new ways to control the battlefield.
The VCT Masters Tokyo has just ended and we crowned the first back-to-back international LAN winners, Fnatic. But aside from the VCT EMEA emerging victorious yet again, Riot Games also introduced a new and upcoming agent in the form of Deadlock.
The Norwegian operative will be the 23rd agent in the ever-growing roster of VALORANT while also being only the fifth Sentinel to be added to the game. The last Sentinel to make its debut was Chamber, which was back in 2021. Deadlock will be making her debut tomorrow on Tuesday, 27 June alongside the latest VALORANT Episode 7, Act One. This will also include a brand new battle pass with new skins, gunbuddies, player cards, and sprays.
Riot Games also released the Episode 7 cinematic titled UNMADE, which revealed the backstory of Deadlock, who was formerly an operative for Ståljeger's Briar team. She was tasked with transporting a Kingdom scientist to a facility in Svalbard to extract and transport a bear that was being experimented on.
Deadlock - Abilities
Basic
(C) GravNet
- EQUIP a GravNet grenade. FIRE to throw. ALT+FIRE to lob the grenade underhand. The GravNet detonates upon landing, forcing any enemies caught within to crouch and move slowly.
(Q) Sonic Sensor
- EQUIP a Sonic Sensor. FIRE to deploy. The sensor monitors an area for enemies making sound. It concusses that area if footsteps, weapons fire, or significant noise are detected.
Signature
(E) Barrier Mesh
- EQUIP a Barrier Mesh disc. FIRE to throw forward. Upon landing, the disc generates barriers from the origin point that block character movement.
Ultimate
(X) Annihilator
EQUIP a Nanowire Accelerator. FIRE to unleash a pulse of nanowires that captures the first enemy contacted. The cocooned enemy is pulled along a nanowire path and will die if they reach the end, unless they are freed. The nanowire cocoon is destructible.
Given the nature of her kit, it's easy to see why she will be in the Sentinel role with her ability to not only block off certain pathways but to also be able to trap and detect enemies. It's easy to see Deadlock be a stable pick in the meta soon, especially since it's a sort of rarity to get new Sentinel agents in the game.
You will most likely be able to unlock Deadlock through the new limited-time agent recruitment event, which will be introduced in Episode 7. This free event pass will allow all players to unlock Deadlock by simply reaching the targetted amount of XP. This will be a major step away from the previous system that was in place to unlock new or old agents, which was through agent contracts.
Deadlock will be available come tomorrow, 27 June.
