More drama for Sentinels.
After a shaky start to the VCT Americas League with a sole win and two losses, Sentinels have decided to drop its head coach, Don “SyykoNT” Muir. In his stead will be Adam “kaplan” Kaplan, who will take over the reins as head coach. This comes after Sentinels CEO, Rob Moore posted an update on his Twitter regarding the situation.
While he didn't exactly reveal why SyykoNT was removed from the head coach position, it could be down to the team's lacklustre start to the year. A first-round exit during the VCT LOCK//IN didn't do them any favours and while they did manage to defeat 100 Thieves in their opening match of the VCT Americas League, two straight losses after that are not enough to paper over the cracks.
It also didn't help that Sentinels lost 2-1 to Leviatán after a great comeback on the second map. Despite all that, the team could not keep it together on Pearl and crumbled soon after. A series that many thought Sentinels would be able to take had proved to be too much for them and the organisation to bare right now.
Both SyykoNT and kaplan joined Sentinels back in October 2022 with the former confident that he could bring the once-fabled organisation back to the top. Unfortunately, it hasn't entirely worked out for Sentinels. Even after a heavy roster shuffle that saw Tyson "TenZ" Ngo being the sole survivor of the 2021 Sentinels roster that dominated North America, the team has still not found its footing just yet.
With kaplan now in the head coach seat, it will be up to him to rally behind the team and bring them back to the top. There are still six matches remaining in the VCT Americas League to determine who will make it to the playoffs. With Sentinels currently in eighth, they will need to put up some strong performances in order to stand a chance of making it to the VCT Masters Tokyo as well as the VCT Champions in NA later in the year.
Sentinels' reset starts this weekend in the league's first and only 'Super Week', which will see the boys in red go up some of Brazil's finest in LOUD and MIBR. Both LOUD and Sentinels will kickstart the Super Week with the first series of the day.
