One of NA's best makes his return.
It has been confirmed that the VCT Challengers squad, Disguised has officially signed Jaccob "yay" Whiteaker to its roster. This was first announced by the team's owner, Jeremy "Disguised Toast" Wan on his official Twitter page. Yay will fill the last starting role for Disguised, who will be competing in the upcoming VCT Challengers 2023: NA Split 2.
This comes after the departure of Drake "Exalt" Branly, who left in the middle of the first split. In his place was the team's substitute, Chris "riku" Piasecki, who filled in for the remainder of the split. And with the soft roster lock already passed for VCT Americas, many speculated that yay would go through Challengers to still play professional VALORANT this year.
Yay's role in the team was already teased on April 1 with Toast in what appeared to be an April Fool's joke at first. Yay also joined in on the fun at the time, making light of him joining the team and playing all the matches by himself.
While yay had already made a name for himself with stints at Team Envy as well as Andbox, it wasn't until he signed with OpTic Gaming did the world truly take notice. Yay was part of the monumental OpTic squad of last season that took the VCT by storm. The team only ever finished within the top three last season while also winning the Stage 1 Masters in Reykjavík. This was followed by a third-place finish at the Stage 2 Masters in Copenhagen and coming in second at Champions.
Having signed for Cloud9 during the off-season, many expected C9 to take the new franchise league by storm. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case with yay and C9 mutually parting ways shortly after the VCT LOCK//IN due to roster issues.
With yay joining Disguised, it will add some much-needed firepower and experience to the squad, which finished in eighth during the first split of the NA VCT Challengers. Disguised also managed a top-eight result at the Mid-Season Face-Off, which goes to show that they do have the potential to go further, especially under the guidance of a man who knows how to get to the top.
The VCT Challengers NA Split 2 will take place on April 18.
