The new regions join Southeast Asia, Korea, Japan and Taiwan/Hong Kong as part of the APAC region.
After an explosive first year of VALORANT esports, the VALORANT Champions Tour is back. In a press release sent out today, Riot Games announces that two new regions will be included in the VCT APAC circuit for 2022 – South Asia and Oceania.
The inclusion means that players from South Asia and Oceania will now fall under the APAC residency rule and will no longer be counted as imports.
The APAC circuit now includes Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam, South Asia, Oceania, Singapore/Malaysia and Taiwan/Hong Kong.
Format and Slot Allocation
Like the previous season, the VCT 2022 season is structured around 3 global events, Masters 1, Masters 2 and Champions. For APAC specifically, there will be a three-stage competition format for teams in the APAC region to get a chance to compete at the global event.
The three stages are:
- Local Challengers: Teams will participate in local-level tournaments for a chance to secure a seed at the Regional Playoffs.
- Regional Playoffs: Teams that qualify for Playoffs will compete for Circuit Points. Those with high enough points will be invited to Global Events.
- Global Events: These international events come with prestige, high prize pools and massive Circuit Point pools.
As for slot allocation, it is split across a 20-team competitive format. Seeds are determined by the size of the competitive playbase in each region, with allocations by region are as follows:
