Team EnVyUs’ Polt has announced he is going to step away from Starcraft in order to fulfill his mandatory military service.
Since 1965 South Korea has required every male between ages of 18-35 to spend 21 to 36 months with the military forces and is a common reason that players in the Korean scene postpone or, usually, retire from the game.
Choi 'Polt' Seon Hoon has had an illustrious career in Starcraft II beginning in 2011 playing in the GSL with the team ‘Prime’ and stealing victories off of legendary players such as SlayerS’ very own BoxeR and the then defending GSL champion MC. He decided to make the move to America in 2012 to study and really find his home in competitive Starcraft. With the release of Heart of the Swarm, Polt joined CM Storm with whom he became one of America’s most loved and most successful players, winning 3 WCS events among many other tournaments all over America and abroad.
With Legacy of the Void he continued his strong performances with a victory in the WCS Winter Circuit Championship, making Polt the only Starcaft II player to win at least one premier tournament every year for six consecutive years. In May this year Polt joined Team EnVyUs where he continued to show strong performances until his announcement this Wednesday.
Polt gave a statement on TeamEnVyUs’ site explaining his thoughts on his decision.
Polt will be forfeiting his place at Blizzcon this year and the player replacing him has not been confirmed. Shin 'Hydra' Dong Won, from the American team, ROOT gaming will also not be present at the event due to a scheduling conflict with his wedding ceremony.
