Today the OnGameNet StarLeague kicked off, with a total of six (!) matches! We saw the reigning champion CaSy[Alive] suffer the same fate as the previous OSL winners. This and more!
The MSL started yesterday, and today we were in for another treat as the OnGameNet StarLeague started again, once again sponsored by ShinHan. Two players from each of the six groups stepped up earlier today and battled it out for the hope of reaching Top 2. Ending Top 2 in the group gives you a ticket to the playoffs, and to fill up 16 players in total, the best four third-placed players will also qualify for the playoffs.
This season's OSL does not have the most known names and famous players as the MSL do, but many of the new contestants are energetic and hungry for a title. However, will they stand up against players as NaDa, JulyZerg and Midas? The first set of matches featured 12 players, and here's how they went at it:
OSL Week #1 | |||
CaSy[Alive] | < | Anytime[gm] | @ Arcadia II |
Bisu[Shield] | > | FireBatHero | @ Arkanoid |
YellOw | < | Ever | @ Tau Cross |
Canata | < | Sea[Shield] | @ New Peaks |
ZergMan | > | Sea.Jy | @ Arcadia II |
GoRush | < | GGPlay | @ New Peaks |
In the first match, we saw the former OSL champion CaSy (picture) lose to Anytime on the macro-based map Arcadia with a lot of cliffs and not too much open field. The OSL curse, meaning that the former champion always losing the first match the following season. This has happened to every OSL winner, except for JulyZerg. We saw Casy goint vultures and expanding a lot, but Anytime teched up to Carriers which held CaSy back a bit, even though the Terran player won the first major battle. Though Anytime pushed on with his carriers and zealots, holding Casy back. A key point was Anytime razing a Casy expansion, and in Casy's last attempt to attack Anytime, the Protoss player from Lecaf OZ used stasis field on the Siege tanks and the reigning OSL champion could not do much.
Bisu[Shield] defeated FireBatHero on Arkanoid, where Bisu went Dragoons and reavers against a poor-macroed FireBatHero. A reaver with 50+ kills and a nice dragoon push was enough for FireBatHero to lose the match. And what seemed to be the Protoss curse yesterday in MSL was the total domination of the Protoss players today, as Ever defeated Yell0w as well.
