It's an explosion of revelations for Arcane's Season 2 trailer.
Netflix and Riot Games have unveiled the official trailer and new images for the highly anticipated second and final season of Arcane, the League of Legends animated series on Netflix.
The explosive trailer, which debuted on Thursday (5 September), features a collaboration with artist Ashnikko for the track “Paint The Town Blue,” the first single from the Arcane Season 2 soundtrack. Fans can listen to the single alongside the trailer, available now.
Arcane, returning this November exclusively on Netflix, has been celebrated as one of the platform’s most successful animated series. The show, created by Christian Linke and Alex Yee, is based on the popular League of Legends game and brings viewers back into the world of Piltover and Zaun, where tensions reach a critical point following Jinx's attack on the Council.
This final season promises to deliver a powerful conclusion to the series. Key characters, including Vi (voiced by Hailee Steinfeld), Jinx (Ella Purnell), and Caitlyn (Katie Leung), return, with the animation once again brought to life by Fortiche Animation. Other notable voices include Reed Shannon as Ekko, Amirah Vann as Sevika, Mick Wingert as Heimerdinger, Ellen Thomas as Ambessa, and Brett Tucker as Singed.
Character development and transformations highlighted in the season 2 trailer
The theme of the Season 2 trailer revolves around the character development of the champions from Piltover and Zaun, showcasing their progression towards their current personalities in League of Legends.
The trailer begins shortly after the events of Season 1, with Vi admitting to Caitlyn, “My sister is gone; there’s only Jinx now.” In subsequent scenes, Vi and Caitlyn are seen preparing to confront Jinx—Vi trains, while Caitlyn upgrades her weapon, making it more like her in-game counterpart. Caitlyn mentions that she wanted to tear “that laugh away from her(Jinx) forever.”
Vi is later introduced by Caitlyn in front of what appears to be an audience of Piltovan enforcers.
In the background, Ambessa suggests imposing martial law on the city. The scene then shifts to Zaun, where Sevika urges Jinx to lead the people of Zaun in a revolution, calling her a “symbol” and encouraging her to rally the Undercity. The trailer’s climax arrives when Sevika asks Jinx about her plans, to which she replies, “To watch it all burn,” followed by vibrant explosions throughout the city. Long-time LoL fans may recognise this as a nod to one of Jinx’s oldest videos, Get Jinxed, evoking a sense of nostalgia.
The trailer then shows scenes of a revolution, with people hurling makeshift weapons on the streets and Ambessa leading the charge in Piltover. Another scene introduces Singed, who now closely resembles his in-game version, speaking to someone presumed to be Vander (now transformed into Warwick), asking if he can “feel it,” likely referring to changes in his body. This is followed by a rampage from a monstrous figure, presumably Warwick.
One mysterious part of the trailer is a voiceover saying, “The Arcane is waking up,” which suggests new characters undergoing a magical transformation. After a few more war-torn scenes in Piltover and Zaun, Ekko is seen telling someone, “Sometimes taking a leap forward means leaving a few things behind,” as he and Heimerdinger work on an experiment.
“This has to end,” says an unknown character, followed by a shot of someone who looks like Vi (but with black hair) in a fighting pit. Other rapid scenes feature Caitlyn, the Piltover enforcers, Ambessa, more explosions, Caitlyn’s new gun, Vi escaping an explosion, and further chaos.
The trailer concludes with Jinx taunting Caitlyn, saying, “Then stop me,” as she reveals herself in a hooded disguise with a smirk. The final scenes show Ekko and Vi working together before the trailer fades to black.
The first season of Arcane was widely praised, earning four Primetime Emmy Awards in 2022, including Outstanding Animated Programme, making it the first streaming series to receive this honour. The show also dominated the 2022 Annie Awards, taking home nine awards, and was recognised by the gaming community with the Best Adaptation award at The Game Awards 2022. The Arcane album was also nominated for a Billboard Music Award for Top Soundtrack.
Fans can expect more updates about Arcane during the Geeked Week Live Fan Event on Thursday, 19th September.
