Split Fiction movie adaptation adds Sydney Sweeney and Wicked director

The live-action adaptation of Split Fiction now boasts the involvement of talent from Wicked and Euphoria.

The live-action adaptation of Hazelight Studios’ co-op game Split Fiction is taking shape rather quickly. Sydney Sweeney is now set to star in the film while Wicked director Jon M. Chu will direct, according to a report by Variety. The writers of Deadpool 2 are also on board to script the movie adaptation.

The Split Fiction movie has no release date yet.

Split Fiction movie adaptation adds cast and crew

The Split Fiction movie adaptation, which was said to be in the midst of a studio bidding war last month (March 2025), is taking shape. Euphoria star Sydney Sweeney has boarded the adaptation, although her exact role has not been confirmed. If the movie directly adapts the events of its source material, however, it’s likely that Sweeney is lined up to play Zoe Foster given their physical resemblance.

That’s not all, though. Jon M. Chu is reportedly attached to direct the film, following the success of his smash hit Broadway musical adaptation Wicked in 2024. His next projects are Wicked: For Good (2025) and a movie adaptation of the Dr. Seuss children’s picture book Oh, the Places You’ll Go! which makes Split Fiction his potential third upcoming project.

Additionally, Deadpool & Wolverine co-writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are said to be in the process of writing the script for the Split Fiction movie. The movie will be produced by Story Kitchen and Electric Somewhere, and executive produced by Sweeney, with a talent package currently being shopped around various movie studios.

Hazelight Studios’ previous co-op game It Takes Two also has a movie adaptation in the works at Amazon Studios, though not much traction has been made on the project in recent times.
