Amazon's Fallout TV series is set in Los Angeles, teaser leaks online

Amazon’s live-action Fallout TV series will debut in 2024, and it looks surprisingly authentic to the games.

Bethesda Game Studios came to Gamescom 2023 to show off its new sci-fi game Starfield, but the developer didn’t stop there. Studio head Todd Howard also showed off an early look at Amazon Prime Video’s upcoming Fallout TV series, which is being made in collaboration with the studio for a 2024 release.

Here’s the series’ first official poster:

Interestingly, some have noted that Amazon seems to have used AI to create the poster, as there are some telltale signs - the red car has two front hoods, some of the buildings have windows while others are featureless, and a second lane of traffic completely vanishes past the blue car. Slap the Vault Boy and some wear-and-tear FX on the whole thing however, and the company seems to think no one will notice.

The poster serves as a location reveal for the series, which will be set in post-apocalyptic Los Angeles. The Vault Boy’s suit also displays the number 33, confirming that the show will follow newly-emerged survivors from Vault 33 this time around. The series is likely still in production amid ongoing writers’ and actors’ strikes in Hollywood, so Amazon might not be ready to make a full teaser public yet.

That doesn’t mean a full teaser hasn’t gone public anyway, of course. Howard also showed off a short trailer for the series exclusive to Gamescom, but some viewers have recorded the footage and uploaded it to YouTube in not-so-great quality:

The teaser is short and difficult to make out, but there are some recognisable visual cues for Fallout fans to pick up: an army of soldiers wearing Power Armour, what appears to be the Brotherhood of Steel, a vault door opening for the first time, a ghoul played by Walton Goggins and several nuclear explosions. Production values seem high here, which is to be expected from a series created by Westworld’s Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan.

Amazon’s Fallout TV series will begin streaming sometime in 2024.
