A new tournament from MLG pits top international players against the best that KeSPA has to offer.
Major League Gaming has announced a new tournament, beginning on September 24. As part of their partnership with KeSPA, the American league will host a 48-player online tournament with prizes totalling $10,000. On top of the cash, players will be battling for one of eight places at MLG Dallas in November. The package includes all-expenses paid trip to Dallas for the event.
Under the title of MLG vs ProLeague (MvP) the tournament will last six weeks. The 48 players will be broken down into the top 24 KeSPA ranked members, 12 players from North America (TBA), six from Europe (TBD) and six from Korea (TBD). When all is said and done, eight players will qualify from MvP for the Fall Championship in Dallas on November 2. There, they will meet players from the Summer Championship and the online qualifiers.
The tournament will be split so that the top eight is divided into quotas. The KeSPA players are guaranteed to fill four of the eight spots, while America gets two and Europe and Korea/Taiwan get one each. “A collaboration that aims to further bridge the Western and Korean StarCraft worlds,”
Sundance DiGiovanni called it. But it won’t stop there. “We plan to expand MvP and roll out new programs in 2013,” said the CEO, hinting at similar tournaments next year.
The list of KeSPA players has already been finalized and includes some huge names. Expect to see the likes of
Jaedong, bisu, Fantasy and more competing later this month. You can see the whole list on MLG's website below.
