Marvel Rivals has unveiled its very first winter event.
NetEase Games’ hero shooter Marvel Rivals has officially announced an all-new winter event, introducing a Splatoon-like 4v4 game mode, themed cosmetics, and more goodies for players to partake in over the holiday season. The game’s Winter Celebration event kicks off on December 20 – just five days before Christmas.

Marvel Rivals unveils limited-time winter event
Both Marvel Rivals and the game it's often compared to, Overwatch 2, are holding winter-themed game events this month – but only one of them is heavily focused on Jeff the Land Shark. Marvel Rivals’ upcoming Winter Celebration event is introducing a limited-time PvP mode called Jeff’s Winter Splash Festival.
Jeff’s Winter Splash Festival puts the adorable little amphibian in the spotlight, with a 4v4 Splatoon-like game mode that has players colour a map using teams of Jeffs. That’s right: everyone plays as Jeff in this game mode, spewing colourful snow in order to mark their territory on the map – don’t think about that too hard.
The Winter Celebration event also comes with a ton of cosmetics, including, of course, one for Jeff the Land Shark himself, who dons some much-needed thermal wear and earmuffs to stave off the cold. Venom gets an iced-up skin (as seen in the trailer, coupled with a gratuitous shot of his behind), along with Groot who gets a Christmas tree-like makeover. By contrast, Rocket Raccoon and Magik get more practical winter outfits, replete with stylish jackets.
The event will also include a “special winter greeting card with gifts from Jeff” which hopefully, though unconfirmed, is inclusive of some free currency and other goodies. Marvel Rivals’ Winter Celebration event launches this week on December 20, 2024.
