MPL-I 2023: RSG PH are crowned champions

After five days of action, the ONE Esports MPL-I 2023 came to an end, with the Philippines controlling the latter parts of the tournament.

Over the past five days, we have been deep in the ONE Esports MPL-Invitational 2023, as 16 teams from around the world came together for the event. While we saw half the teams eliminated after the Group Stage, the remaining went forward into the playoffs – which culminated today with a champion being crowned. After Blacklist International was eliminated by HomeBois, the remaining three PH teams took control, pushing all the way through to the top three. WithAP.Bren, RSG Philippines, andECHO manning the top three spots, PH, once again, found themselves above the rest – which bodes well for the region with the M5 World Championship fast approaching.

The Kingslayers return

Not so long ago, RSG PH was considered the best team in their region, having slain multiple of the best teams around the world – and thus the term the Kingslayers came about. However, since MSC 2022, the team has fallen into third and fourth place in MPL PH, while not really making an impression anywhere else. That was up until today when they made their return to the top with a glorious victory over ECHO.

The day began with RSG first taking down the MPL PH Season 12 champions, AP.Bren, getting revenge on the team which sent them into the lower bracket on day one of the playoffs. Heading into the grand finals, a best-of-five affair, RSG seemed to be on a high, never letting the M4 champions ever really have a clear chance, even after they took a game-two win. But, when all the dust had settled on the Land of Dawn, RSG stood proud, having conquered the MPL-Invitational 2023.

Unfortunately, we will not see either of these two teams at the upcoming M5 event, while third-place Bren will be one of the two teams to champion the PH efforts on home soil. It will be interesting to see if they and Blacklist will be able to pick things up going forward into the prestigious culmination of the MLBB year.
