MWI 2024: Victory Song Gamers are Russian powerhouse with a sprinkle of flair from the Philippines

MWI 2024 is right around the corner, and VSG comes into the tournament with an interesting team looking to match the performance of Deus Vult.

Victory Song Gamers may not be a team that has a lot of fame to their name beyond a few tournaments with their region, but they bring in a rather interesting lineup to the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Women’s Invitational 2024. Hailing from mainly Russia but with a twist, VSG looks to take the Esports World Cup by storm when the MWI 2024 event gets underway later this month from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

A female Deus Vult

Although Russia or the EECA region, in general, has not seen a lot of time in the limelight when it comes to MLBB, everything did change earlier this year during the M5 World Championship, where Deus Vult took a surprising fourth-place finish. VSG has since been deemed the female version of Deus Vult, with a brilliant playstyle that has brought in some fantastic results for the team. As the veritable “dark horse” team in Group C, VSG will be hoping to match the performance shown by their male counterparts recently and make their mark on the international stage at the Esports World Cup.

New players mean new hopes

When they qualified for MWI 2024 through the LADY MVP x CYBERHERO Season 4 tournament, VSG was a squad of only players from Russia. This squad did look rather strong, going unbeaten in a full series throughout the tournament, and dropping only two games to Violet Blade during their march to victory. However, since then, the squad has added two players from the Philippines which could bring something completely unexpected to the table. Both Riyaaan and Gayleee have joined the roster, strengthening a team that is already strong enough to make a stand.

The PH influence brings in two players with quite a bit of experience, as the players have played in tournaments such as the UNIPIN Ladies Championship and the Queen’s League, with Gayleee having participated at MWI 2023 under Risk Velkhana. One aspect which is certainly plausible to worry about is whether or not the two sides of this team struggle with communication, or if they have easily overcome this barrier. The full roster for VSG going into MWI 2024 is as follows:

  • Irina “Kioway” Koroleva
  • Iuliia “Syncro” Maltseva
  • Lhoureain Hadiyah “Riyaaan” Samon Alcaraz
  • Jewel Gayle “Gayleee” Vincencio Reyes
  • Elizaveta “Minun” Rukavishnikova
  • Nadezhda “Tranzy” Novikova

Adapting on the go

Kioway is the standout player on this roster, but it is a very different one from the normal picks that we make. Kioway, at only 19 years of age, has not had the experience of some of the other players in the squad or in the greater MLBB scene in general – but that has definitely not stopped her from shining at every turn. She stole the spotlight during the qualifier, ruling the Land of Dawn from the jungle with some of her favourite hero picks such as Lancelot and Ling. While in real life she can be kind and sympathetic, she takes none of that into the game when she comes up against her opponents.

On paper, Victory Song Gamers have a huge chance to cause some major upsets, but when it comes down to it, the pressure of such a massive event may get to them when they have a team without much experience. With that said, this is definitely a team to watch when MWI 2024 kicks off on July 24th from the Esports World Cup in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
