100 Thieves former-pro-turned-streamer Ssumday confirmed his retirement

Ssumday has decided to call time on his 10-year professional career.

The former 100 Thieves toplaner-turned-streamer Kim “Ssumday” Chan-ho has called time on his professional career in League of Legends that saw him perform at the highest level for a decade. Aside from 100T, Ssumday also played for other LCS teams like Dignitas and Evil Geniuses as well as a stint with KT Rolster during the start of his career.

In his most recent X post, Ssumday spoke about the main reason for his retirement and that he felt it was his turn. He also showed special appreciation to all the people and fans who have supported him throughout his career. Ssumday will now plan to attend military service later this year in July, which is to be expected of all able-bodied South Korean men aged between 18 and 35.

He also mentioned that he may head into coaching or streaming once his mandatory military service is complete, or even the possibility of finding a job outside of League of Legends. However, nothing is written in stone just yet.

Ssumday started his career back in 2013 with KT Rolster where he won his first Champions Korea during Summer 2014. This was followed by his Worlds debut in 2015 where KT finished in the top eight after a quarter-final playoff exit. He would make the move to the LCS for the 2017 season with Dignitas where they failed to qualify for both the Mid-Season Invitational and Worlds that year. And after just one season, he would go on to join 100 Thieves.

This would be where he spent the majority of his 10-year career as half of it was with 100 Thieves. And they started off strong in 2018 with a second and fourth-place finish during the NA LCS Spring and Summer Splits, which was enough for them to qualify for Worlds. However, 100 Thieves failed to get past the group stage and had to settle for a shared ninth-12th finish instead.

His next few years with 100 Thieves would have its fair share of ups and downs, which included his demotion to the Academy squad in the 2019 season. He did, however, end up helping the side clinch the LCS Academy League Summer trophy that year and got the spot back in the LCS starting line-up. And it was only in the 2021 season did Ssumday finally lift his first LCS title during the Summer Split after a 3-0 sweep against Team Liquid in the grand finals.

100 Thieves went on to Worlds again that year abut failed to get past the group stage once again. And in the following year, 100 Thieves came close on two separate occasions during the Spring and Summer Splits, but sadly, had to settle for second-place twice. To make matters worse, a back-to-back appearance at Worlds once more saw 100 Thieves fail to get out of the group stage.

Ssumday would eventually move to Evil Geniuses to start the 2023 season, but even that was short-lived as he only made it until after the Spring Split. Of course, this was around the time when EG was going through various issues with its roster as well. He would then resign with 100 Thieves for last year's Summer Split but by then, the team was already a shadow of its former self.
