Worlds 2023 has its first eliminated team as Rainbow7 is shown the door at the hands of GAM Esports.
GAM Esports is here to stay for another day after they defeated Rainbow7 to eliminate the undisputed LLA champions from Worlds 2023. This will put GAM in the deciding series with a rematch against LOUD to determine who moves on. As for R7, they will be the first team heading home from Worlds 2023.
The last time both teams met, it was R7 who sent GAM home early on at the Mid-Season Invitational. And just five months later, it was the VCS champions who got the last laugh after a clinical performance. While the last series between these two teams ended 2-1 in favour of R7, this rematch saw GAM take control of both matches with ease.
Game one saw R7 try to get a grasp of the map with GAM waiting to pounce on the slightest mistake. But while R7's comp looked good on paper, they had to hit a certain timing in order to make it work, which sadly did not work out. Both Jo-bin "Mireu" Jeong and Lorenzo "Ceo" Tévez did the best they could with 100 per cent of the team's total kills, which was six.
But it was all about GAM and more specifically, Duy Khánh "Levi" Đỗ and Linh Vương "Slayder" Nguyễn who made the most of R7's errors. Both Levi and Slayder managed to get triple kills on separate occasions as Wukong secured a total of six kills with two deaths and 11 assists while Xayah went on an 8-0-5 run to win the first match. Even Nguyễn "Palette" Hải Trung got in on the action with 16 assists, the most of anyone in the match.
In the second match, GAM stuck with the same Syndra and Xayah combo for maximum magical and physical damage. This worked well with its entire team comp that saw GAM run riot against R7 once more. And it was only right for Slayder to end the series with a pentakill, which was a dagger to the heart of R7 as they ended up being the first team to get eliminated from Worlds 2023.
GAM Esports will be back in action tomorrow against LOUD in the first series to start the fourth day of Worlds 2023. The winner will move on to the second round of the Play-In Stage while the loser will make their way home.
