LCK Spring Split playoffs: Who will make it to the finals?

The semifinals of the LCK Spring Split playoffs looks to be an exciting one.

With the quarterfinals now done, we look ahead to the semifinals of the LCK Spring Split playoffs that will be taking place this weekend. The first series between T1 and Kwangdong Freecs will take place on Saturday, March 26 while the other series between DWG.KIA and Gen.G Esports will happen on Sunday, March 27. Of course, this could set up a fiery grand final if both T1 and DWG were to make it through, thus setting the stage to see who is the best in the LCK this season.

DWG managed to overcome Brion Esports 3-0 on their playoffs debut, securing their spot in the semifinals. As for Freecs, they had a much more difficult time against DRX, which went to all five games. It was a very back-and-forth series with each team not giving the other room for any momentum. So how will they fare against their semifinal opponents?

T1 vs Kwangdong Freecs

The three-time world champions have been in fine form this season, going undefeated for the entire LCK Spring Split and being the first team to ever do so in the process. They will be heading into the semifinals brimming with confidence, knowing they're just two best-of-five series away from making it to the Mid-Season Invitational, a tournament they've not been to since 2019. As for Freecs, they will be looking to go further than they ever have before with the team never making it to MSI since its inception. While they're certainly in a good position to do so, they do have one of the LCK's most feared teams to get past first.

Given T1's current form, it's hard to see them losing to Freecs, especially when it's a best-of-five series. In the two group stages series, T1 came out on top twice with Freecs taking only one match from it. To see them taking three is a bit of a stretch but of course, stranger things have happened on the Summoner's Rift. However, all signs will be leaning towards T1 taking this one.

DWG.KIA vs Gen.G Esports

DWG versus Gen.G has been an exciting match-up over the past couple of years, especially after last year's spring split finals. DWG swept past Gen.G with ease, heading on to MSI 2021. This year, however, tells a different story with DWG not being at their best while Gen.G has looked stronger than ever before. They finished the season in second place, comfortably ahead of DWG in third. To make matters even more interesting, Gen.G won both their series against DWG during the group stages.

However, there's no counting out the Worlds 2020 champions as even though they have not been at their best, they still have some of the best players in the LCK. Gen.G should be full of confidence heading into the series and so should DWG so choosing a winner between the two will be difficult. Based on history alone and how the teams are when playing one another, you have to give it to DWG. This is down solely to one other best-of-five between the two, which DWG won previously.

LCK Spring Split playoff grand finals

With the semifinals taking place this weekend, the grand finals for the LCK Spring Split playoffs will be happening one week from now on Saturday, April 2. The winner of the final best-of-five series will go on to represent the LCK at MSI 2022, which is already heavily rumoured to be in South Korea
