Turkish Champions League: Week 1 Recap

The first week of the Riot Games officiated professional leagues was a blast. The Turkish Champions League (TCL) is no exception to the excitement. Here, we will look at some of the results and the teams of the TCL.?

Team AURORA (2-0)

Playing as the dark horses in the scene, AURORA has no doubt played with strategy. The players played with over the top lane-swaps and looked to out-rotate the enemy teams in both matches.

Mustafa "Avenuee" Atalay has proven that he is a veteran and a relevant player with his Leblanc and an unexpected Lux. What he brought into the team was both the mechanics and the experience he had with the old Besiktas (BJK) last year. He currently leads the KDA leaderboard with a staggering 18.

Question to think about: Will AURORA continue their victories with their knowledge of rotations?

Be?ikta?.Oyunhizmetleri (1-1)

Oyunhizmetleri (OHM) signed a sponsorship deal with the sports club, Besiktas, to claim the infamous name of BJK. Furthermore, they have brought in a foreign coach and the strong top-jungle duo of Sweden, who've played previously at Team Turquality in 2015. What the team brings is aggressiveness all around the map as they want to show that they are more mechanically gifted than the other players of the league.

While they do play standard lanes, their ideas about playing rotations are still modern. Their whole team radiates with an aggressive playstyle. However, their greatest strengths lie within their mechanically gifted carries. ADC, Mid, and Top players are all very strong players who know how to outplay their enemies.

Question to think about: Will the new BJK show no weakness from their aggressive style or will they be punished for their fearful style?

Dark Passage

This team has so much history within the Turkish League of Legends eSports community. They have represented the TCL two times for the anual summer International Wildcard Tournaments, at which they have qualified for the World Championships once. The ex-star Midlaner, Koray "Naru" B?çak, left the team for the newly named, SuperMassive, in search for a complete lineup. However, DP's strengths are clearly visible as they have crushed Team Turquality in their first match of the week.

DP's Top and ADC are still in the team exposing a glint of their former glory. While they have the most famous coach in the Turkish scene, they have shown a form of shakiness. Defeated by HWA, their consistency was in question. With all that said, DP is still a great team, with or without Naru.

Question to think about: How will they rebound from their most recent defeat?

HWA Gaming

HWA has one of the biggest fanbase in the Turkish scene, if not the biggest fanbase. They have aqcuired many new players from different scenes. They are now looking to be the best with a new roster.

Orgen "Hatrixx" Elgaen, the Mid for HWA, has been showing himself with high all-round stats. While his team is supporting him, he has proven to lead the team to better team fights and objectives. They have also shown that they are capable to play with laneswaps against the best teams including DP.

Question to think about: Will they show consistency as a team?

NumberOne eSports

As underdogs in the scene, they have shown that they can still fight against teams like HWA. The team has been taking steps in terms of improvements as individual players and as a team in whole. Whether or not they are improving is still in question.

NumberOne has shown that they are good at taking CS with a high aptitude. Their teamfights, indeed, are not the best, but their cool team spirit brings them closer to wins at every opportunity. If they are given time to grow, they can be a team to be feared against.

Question to think about: How long will it take to make NumberOne eSports a number one team?

SuperMassive

Ah, yes. SuperMassive was the most hyped team in the league. They were previously known as Besiktas (BJK), but they have gotten rid of their prior sponsorship. As I have mentioned earlier, Naru has joined the newly named, SuperMassive, to join a complete team. Despite all the hype surounding SuperMassive, they have dissapointed with loss versus the current BJK.

Despite their loss, no one can belittle their squad. They are truly a strong team with famous players in the scene. Although they have been short against BJK, they have proven their strength with their great early game prowess. Once they find their identity as a team, they will prove that they can lead Turkey once again.

Question to think about: Is this team the team we will see that will represent Turkey?

Team Turquality

The wolves are back and they are here to bite once again. Team Turquality is used to bringing in new players all the time. However, this time, they have brought in two Korean players, an action no team has ever done before in the Turkish scene.

Lee "Reach" Joon-won, the jungler for Team Turquality, has shown his ability to move around the map like a freak, helping his team in every way. Fencer, the Toplaner, shown his prowess as a carry, while he has not shown a great aptitude as a team player yet. The team has defeated BJK, a team that people thought would end up as the league's leaders. We are still interested in how they will play in the end of the split.

Question to think about: How well will the Koreans boost the team's quality?

Cilekler

Cilekler is a team that has just promoted into the Turkish Champions League. They were known to have great synergy as a team and has great potential to play in late game. However, they have not been showing any outstanding results. In fact, their late game was poor, although they had early leads in one of the games.

The players are all domestic and have zero communication problems, unlike many other teams. If they can muster what they have and prove that their synergy is indeed powerful, the team may have a chance similar to that of NumberOne eSports.

Question to think about: How will they utilize their resources in game and how well will they show their late game potential?

Conclusion

It was a busy week for all teams of all regions. There were incredibly many cases of upsets, which in the TCL's case, Team Turquality beat BJK. Although the Turkish league is not as big as the EULCS nor the NALCS, it is just as entertaining to watch as a League of Legends fan.
