Most picked

Playing on Kha'Zix patch for MLG automatically meant one thing: the most picked list would remain very much identical to those from the Season 2 regionals and grand finals. The brighter side is that this is likely to be the last tournament of undisputed Ezreal and Sona domination as both champions suffered nerfs in the last patch and, additionally, it is said that Season 3 is to endorse a greater variety of viable champions.

However, as the data here is still gathered before those changes were in effect, the top fifteen in question has its regulars splattered all over the place. Below Ezreal, Sona and Orianna is a string of champions that have never been unpopular and this trend continues a long way before we encounter the first anomalies.

Number one is the absolute absence of Karthus in the selected clique as he lost the "who's more popular" contest to Vayne. In fact, this is the first time in many months that we see Vayne so contested as she edged out even top picks such as Graves or Sivir. Number two is the rising attractiveness of Lulu: The purple pixie lady was so well represented in MLG Fall that she is tied with Nunu and is far above Leona, two champions that flat out shoved Lulu into the dark statistical corner in previous tournaments.

Unfortunately, although it did not cause great turmoil to the overall picture, the Kha'Zix patch did affect our favorite cow lethally. With Headbutt severely nerfed, Alistar remained outside all charts, picked only twice and banned zero times.

When it comes to most first picked, the changes are virtually none. Ezreal, Shen and Jayce are high up there as they have always been, mixed in with Rengar - who enjoyed quite the attention last weekend seeing how he was no longer globally banned - and Irelia, who Wickd grabbed whenever he was given the chance to player her and not be stuck with Malphite.

Most banned and most contested

Those two graphs are so tied together they are almost identical. The hatred from Evelynn that began all the way back at the S2WC Korean nationals passed through the magnifier that was the Season 2 finals and blew out in full force last weekend. Banned 22 times out of 37 games, the most dreaded mid laner is just 4 games below the king of top, Jayce. Rengar and Vayne pair up to complete the list of champions that were banned on general spite and from there till bottom we mostly see targeted bans, whether against certain player (Froggen's Anivia or Wickd's Irelia) or against certain playstyle (hard initiators like Skarner and Maokai were once again the go-to bans after the Jayces and Evelynns).

Once against, here's hoping that after the tournaments embrace the new patches, we'll never ever marvel at this exact same vista tournament after tournament after tournament.

Player stats

All mentions of CS in the text are to be read as "average CS". The KDA ratio is calculated by RIOT fashion, i.e. (Kills+Assists)/Deaths.

Lessons learned, lessons repeated: Europeans (well, mostly CLG) can farm and Koreans can kill. What's funny is that the entire Najin Sword roster is represented in the "Best by KDA" chart, which is a remarkable feat of its own. What's even more remarkable is that is not even their first time, and they did that in the S2WC groups as well.

The extremities continue with Azubu Blaze and, more precisely, the lack of Azubu Blaze. With the exception of Cpt Jack, no other member of the Korean powerhouse made the top ten in either CS and KDA. Yet, seeing how they ended up champions, has there ever been a stronger statement that winning in LoL has nothing to do with individual performance?
