I can't think of many other things that are as fun as setting down some time with a friend and playing Heroes of the Storm. Not just one or two games, but an extended session that lasts until you are both able to predict the others movements. A Heroes of the Storm session filled with ganks, pubstomps, and bitter defeats that you can't help but still talk about well into the next match.
But at the start of each match there is the eternal question: What heroes do we play? You might have your favorites (like Murky + Abathur for maximum annoyance), but if you haven't played with these tried and true hero combos yet, you are in for a treat.
Kerrigan and Arthas
Few heroes can chase down enemy heroes together as well as Kerrigan and Arthas. Arthas no longer has access to Envenom, but the gank synergy is still terribly effective. It doesn't really matter how you start the gank: If Arthas connects with a Howling Blast than so will Kerrigan's Impaling Blades. If Kerrigan connects with Primal Grasp than Arthas can easily move in close enough to slow an enemy with Frozen Tempest. Death Coil, Ravage, and several heavy melee auto attacks later, you have your self a dead enemy hero.
Nazeebo and E.T.C
This duo brings true wombo-combo potential that only needs two players to coordinate. E.T.C's Mosh Pit is a natural compliment to Nazeebo's Ravenous Spirit, but the synergy goes beyond this as well. Nazeebo is one of the more fragile heroes in the game and has much to benefit when a dedicated teammate is keeping enemies off of him; something E.T.C is made to do. At level 13, if E.T.C takes the Uber Rock star talent, he can help Nazeebo stay alive with a passive 20 percent move speed buff!
Tyrande and Nova
If you and your friend are the type that like to see big numbers, than this is the duo for you. When backed by True Shot Aura and Hunter's Mark, Nova can relive some of her past burst damage glory. This duo is especially good for hunting down enemy heroes, as Shadow Stalk and Sentinel let Nova know exactly where low HP heroes are, or where to land a Precision Strike. If you REALLY want to see big numbers, have Tyrande choose Hunter's Prey for her level 20 talent. This allows Shadow Stalk to give Nova and extra 100% damage bonus on her next auto attack!
The above screenshot is taken from match between Tempo Storm and 3dmax. These are the type of Ancestral Healings you want to be hitting when playing Rehgar and Illidan.
Rehgar and Illidan
These heroes seem made for each other. For starters, Rehgar might be the only support character fast enough to keep up with Illidan's jump-around-the-battlefield play style. Not only does it minimize the number of times that Illidan is stranded deep behind enemy lines without support, but Ghost wolf allows Rehgar to negate one of the best counters to Illidan: hunt down his healer. Lighting Shield becomes an incredibly useful shield that actually increases Illidan's DPS, and a timely Ancestral Healing on a low HP Illidan who's evasion is about to run out is one of the more powerful team fight swings in the game. Rehgar pulls the weight in this team comp while Illidan just continues to do Illidan things, only this time he won't die while doing them.
Falstad + Brightwing
Where is my team?! Running this duo will make sure your allies WON'T be yelling that every time they lose a team fight. The raw mobility both of these heroes provide allow two players in communication to capture objectives and rally to the aid of their teammates extremely efficiently. On top of this synergy, Falstad benefits greatly from almost all of Brightwing's abilities, including the increased movement speed from Pixie Dust and at level 16, a tactical Critterize to maximize Falstad's Burst potential. Enjoy seeing your win rate on Dragon Shire sky rocket.
There are plenty of other heroes that synergies with each other, but these are the most powerful two-person combos that come to mind. What lineup do you use when going on a best friend HotS marathon? Let us know in the comments section!
