Honor of Kings IKL Spring 2025 Week 1: Vesakha Esports shock Group Overlord

Vesakha Esports shocked the partnered teams with their 2-0 performance in Week 1 of the Indonesia Kings Laga Spring 2025.

Vesakha Esports spread terror in every partnered team in Group Overlord during the first week of Honor of Kings (HoK) Indonesia Kings Laga (IKL) Spring 2025. The closed qualifier champions destroyed ONIC Esports, 2-0, and defeated Mahadewa Esports in a 2-1 victory. Meanwhile, Honor of Kings Championship 2024 grand finalist Dominator Esports reminded everyone why they are the best team in Indonesia after topping the standings of Group Tyrant with a 2-0 record.

Vesakha Esports were one of the teams that entered the IKL Spring 2025 from the Closed Qualifier alongsideTeam Nemesis (former Sigmapedia). With renowned esports organisations also joining the league, community-driven teams like Vesakha Esports suddenly found themselves as huge underdogs in the competition. However, Vesakha's performance in Week 1 almost certainly slapped some sense into everyone who thought the non-partnered teams would be pushovers. This trend could continue next week when they face Talon Esports ID and Bigetron Esports.

With the addition of Hoo “TianX” Wen Feng and Wong “GuiYu” Yit Siang, Dominator stood on top of Group Tyrant with their 2-0 record. They defeated Kagendra and Alter Ego Enma, though they failed to achieve a perfect first week after Alter Ego Enma stole a game from them. Nonetheless, they were undoubtedly the best team in the group, especially with how dominant GuiYu has been on the Clash Lane.

Here are the Honor of Kings Indonesia Kings Laga Spring 2025 standings after the end of Week 1:

  • Group Tyrant
    1. Dominator Esports (2-0) +3 Game difference (GF)
    2. Kagendra (2-1) +2 GF
    3. Rex Regum Qeon (1-1) +0 GF
    4. Team Nemesis (1-1) -1 GF
    5. Alter Ego Enma (0-3) -4 GF
  • Group Overlord
    1. Vesakha Esports (2-0) +3 GF
    2. Talon Esports ID(1-1) +1 GF
    3. Mahadewa Esports (1-1) +0 GF (ahead because of head-to-head against Bigetron Esports)
    4. Bigetron Esports (1-1) +0 GF
    5. ONIC Esports (0-2) -4 GF

A lousy debut for Alter Ego Enma and ONIC Esports

Alter Ego Enma and ONIC Esports might need to refresh their memories after their debut in the first week of IKL Spring 2025. The two teams didn't taste a single series win in the opening week of the league, with ONIC Esports not even getting a single game victory. While the season is still long, this poor start can still dictate their direction in the league. Both teams need a quick pick-up in the coming week, especially Alter Ego Enma, who have had three defeats so far.

Alter Ego Enma still have nine matches left to fix their position in the league if they want to qualify for the Playoffs. However, their next opponents aren't pushovers, as they would face Rex Regum Qeon and Team Nemesis. On paper, Team Nemesis might be one of the “easier” ones to beat, but they have already defeated Rex Regum Qeon in the opening series of Week 1. While they lost to Kagendra on the third day, it was more than enough proof that closed qualifier teams aren't pushovers and can be as dangerous, if not more, than partnered teams.

ONIC Esports, meanwhile, played without one of their newest recruits in AZ1. It is currently unknown when the player will join the team for IKL Spring 2025, as the player is reportedly facing visa issues.

The Honor of Kings Indonesia Kings Laga Spring 2025 will continue with Week 2 on 25 April 2025. Team Nemesis will meet Dominator Esports in the opening series.
