Hollow Knight: Silksong won't skip Nintendo Switch 1, new screenshots revealed

Is 2025 the year Hollow Knight: Silksong finally sees the light of day?

Fans of the beloved Metroidvania, Hollow Knight, have new reason to hope, as recent updates about the long-awaited sequel have emerged. Not only will Hollow Knight: Silksong launch on Steam, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch 2, but it has also been confirmed for release on the original Nintendo Switch.

This confirmation comes directly from Team Cherry’s Matthew Griffin, who announced the news on X:

In addition, five brand-new screenshots of Silksong were quietly uploaded to Nintendo Japan’s product page for the game, giving players a rare glimpse of what’s to come.

Hollow Knight: Silksong is the long-anticipated follow-up to 2017’s Hollow Knight, which debuted on Steam and later expanded to platforms including Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, macOS, and Xbox One. Since its release, the original has become a genre-defining title, leaving a lasting impact on the Metroidvania and indie gaming scenes.

Despite its announcement six years ago, updates on Silksong have been few and far between. While the game made appearances in showcases such as the Microsoft Bethesda Games Showcase in 2022, its continued absence from major announcements have become a running joke within the community.

However, earlier this year, tweets and posts on social media from one of the co-directors at Team Cherry sparked hope among fans—a photo of a chocolate cake with a recipe released on 2 April 2024—leading to speculation that something about the long-awaited game would be announced during the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct presentation.

That speculation turned out to be correct. Hollow Knight: Silksong was officially confirmed during the presentation—and with it, confirmation that the game will also be playable on the original Switch. Coupled with the newly surfaced screenshots, it seems that Silksong is finally inching closer to launch.
