Marvel Rivals has outlined its big Season 1.5 update.

NetEase Games has confirmed more details for Marvel Rivals’ upcoming Season 1.5 update, which adds The Human Torch and The Thing to the game’s playable roster. Season 1.5 also adds a new Dracula-themed map set in Central Park, New York City, with a number of balance changes also going live when it launches on 21 February, 2024.

Marvel Rivals shows off The Thing and The Human Torch

NetEase Games has dropped three new trailers for Marvel Rivals, teasing two upcoming characters and a map launching with the game’s big Season 1.5 update. First off, the Fantastic Four is finally getting rounded out with the arrival of The Thing and The Human Torch, both of whom will become playable when Season 1.5 launches.

The Human Torch is a Duelist character who throws fireballs at enemies while flying around the map. His kit also includes the ability to strike down on opponents from above, and create a wall of fire to stave off the enemy team. His ultimate ability allows him to throw out a flaming tornado, which can then be paired with Storm’s ultimate ability to create an even bigger, and more mobile, flaming tornado.

The Thing is a Vanguard character, moving into battle a little slower than The Human Torch while packing a bigger punch. The Thing fights with his fists, using abilities that allow him to charge up a haymaker or run into enemy lines and slam onto the ground for AoE damage.

He can also leap into battle or throw Wolverine at enemies - the latter move being the infamous ‘fastball special’ from the pages of Marvel comics. His ultimate has him yell his catchphrase - “It’s clobbering time!” - and slam down on the ground with enough might to throw enemies up into the air.

Marvel Rivals unveils new Central Park map

The game is also getting a new map called Central Park, set in an alternate version of New York City ruled by Dracula. Hence, the park is getting a gothic makeover with more than a few Marvel easter eggs for players to spot. The trailer for this map also hints at another upcoming playable character: Blade, the vampire-hunting Daywalker.

Marvel Rivals Season 1.5 launches on 21 February, 2025. It's worth noting that NetEase Games recently fired a swathe of the game’s development team however, including its game director.
