The highly-anticipated looter-shooter Borderlands 4 is set to release within the year.
Revealed during Playstation’s State of Play event, Borderlands 4 is set to launch this coming 23 September, 2025. The game released a trailer showcasing the various gameplay changes and features which promise to shake up the classic Borderlands formula.
Borderlands 4 is also set to get its own dedicated State of Play sometime soon, featuring a deep dive into its combat, action skills, guns, vault hunters, and more.
The description of the trailer introduces a new antagonist to the game, described as the oppressive Timekeeper, whose ruthless dictatorship over the planet of Kairos faces trouble at the hands of badass Vault Hunters (aka you!). It’s looking like Borderlands 4 will immerse excited players in chaos, blood and guts, and humour galore to enjoy.
Some unique features have also been revealed, these being special move mechanics not often seen in the Borderlands franchise. Players will have the ability to double jump, glide, dodge, and even try out fixed-point grappling, changing up how you will be able to navigate Kairos as you face off against swarms of enemies.
In addition to new move mechanics, Borderlands 4 has also teased new Vault Hunter abilities: one Vault Hunter is able to wield dual elemental axes, one can summon an energy cannon, and another can even be seen creating a clone of themself.
Borderlands 4 is developed by game studio Gearbox Software and will be published by 2K. The game will launch on Playstation, Xbox, Steam, and Epic Games.
