Netmarble and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment have revealed a new Game of Thrones game at The Game Awards 2024.
Game of Thrones: Kingsroad is an action-adventure open world RPG set within the timeline of Game of Thrones’ season four, right after the iconic Red Wedding that saw the death of the King in the North Robb Stark. With three remaining kings ready to stake their claim on the iron throne and the threat of white walkers beyond the wall, players will experience a brand-new story through the eyes of a Northern bastard.
Although the main character is yet to be named, he becomes the heir to House Tyre, a house that seems to be created solely for the game as it is not mentioned in Game of Thrones’ official canon, and is embroiled within the political intrigue and infighting that the show is known for.
In the game, players will be able to customise their character thanks to a character creator, and will also be able to choose between three classes: Sellsword, Knight, or Assassin. With the legacy of House Tyre on the line, players must do what it takes to rally fellow houses, gather banners under their cause, and protect the wall from the looming white walker invasion.
The official reveal trailer for Game of Trones: Kingsroad featured a number of iconic character appearances. Jon Snow is manning the wall at Castle Black and seems to play a major part in the main character’s story, entreating him to aid their cause by gathering the support of the great houses, while Varys, Jamie Lannister, Cersei Lannister, and the Night King also make appearances. Daenerys Targaryen’s dragon, Drogon, can also be seen in the trailer, a hint that the Mother of Dragons may also play a part in the game.
Game of Thrones: Kingsroad will be available on all mobile platforms and is set to launch in 2025 for the Americas, Europe, Africa, Oceania, and the Middle East. A launch schedule for Asia will be announced next year.
Netmarble is a South Korean mobile games developer and publisher founded in 2002, and is most well-known for the incredibly successful game adaptation for the webtoon and anime Solo Leveling: Arise.
