Concord will be featured in an episode of Amazon’s game anthology Secret Level despite its shutdown.
PlayStation Studios’ multiplayer hero shooter Concord might be shut down as of now, but it’s not quite dead yet. Amazon Prime Video’s upcoming videogame anthology Secret Level is set to feature the game as one of the many titles it’s adapting, and series creator Tim Miller is pretty broken up about its cancellation.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Miller said that he “honestly [doesn’t] understand why it didn’t work.” However, he still thinks the game's Secret Level episode will show viewers “the potential of this world and the characters.”
Concord episode still to be featured in Secret Level despite cancellation
PlayStation Studios infamously shut down its flailing multiplayer hero shooter Concord in September and disassembled its creator Firewalk Studios just last month. This came as no surprise to anyone paying attention to its poor reception at launch. The game reportedly launched to very low sales with just 25,000 copies estimated to be sold across both PlayStation 5 and PC platforms. According to Steam Charts, it peaked at just 697 concurrent players at launch on Steam.
Despite all of this, the game is still set to make an appearance in the upcoming Amazon Prime Video animated anthology Secret Level. The TV series will adapt one popular game IP per episode, including the likes of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, Sifu, Mega Man, and for whatever reason, Concord. The game may have been shut down, but it will live on in the form of this Secret Level episode forever.
Secret Level creator Tim Miller confirmed in a recent Rolling Stone interview that the Concord episode was never going to be removed despite its recent cancellation. He went on to say very nice things about its development team: “There was no nicer, more invested group of developers than the team on Concord [...] I honestly don’t understand why it didn’t work. I know that they were trying to do the best they could, and they were a talented group of artists, so I feel terrible for that."
While the contents of Secret Level’s Concord episode are currently unknown, it’s likely that it will explore the game’s characters and sci-fi world – which were also planned to be further developed in-game via a series of seasonal cinematic lore drops. Miller remains optimistic of the game’s inclusion in the series, saying:
I don’t feel bad that it’s a part of the show, because I think it’s an episode that turned out really well, and you can kind of see the potential of this world and the characters [...] If it’s the remaining vestige of that product, I hope the developers feel that it’s in some way worthy, just a little bit, of the blood, sweat, and tears they put into it.
Secret Level will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on December 10, 2024 with 15 episodes.
