Sunday finally revealed as new playable character coming in Honkai: Star Rail version 2.7

Honkai: Star Rail developer HoYoverse has now begun revealing the next set of playable characters coming in the game’s version 2.7 update, starting with the fan-favourite Sunday.

Sunday was first introduced to the game as the head of the Oak Family, one of the ruling representatives of the faction known simply as ‘the Family’ that worships Xipe the Aeon of Harmony. He was also the organiser of the Charmony Festival, the event that brought the Astral Express Crew to the Planet of Festivities.

But during the events of the Penacony Trailblaze Missions, it was revealed that Sunday was part of a plot within the Family to resurrect Ena the fallen Aeon of Order to usurp the authority of Xipe in Penacony. However, Sunday was defeated through the combined efforts of the Astral Express Crew, his own sister Robin, and other factions present in Penacony.

Following his defeat, Sunday was imprisoned by the Family for his crimes. Robin then secretly negotiated with Jade of the Interastral Peace Incorporation for his release, but Sunday refused to accept this. So, Sunday’s fate was left ambiguous for a while before he was ultimately revealed to return as a playable character.

While we don’t know how Sunday would escape from his captivity, we do know now that he will join Honkai: Star Rail’s roster as a 5-star character wielding the Imaginary element and following the Path of Harmony. If the likes of Robin and Ruan Mei are anything to go by, we can expect Sunday to also become an exceptional support character. But what gameplay niche or mechanic he will be buffing remains to be seen.

Sunday’s appearance as a playable character notably differs from how he first appeared as a NPC, with his original all-white priestly outfit changed to a more asymmetrical attire with a white, blue, and gold colour scheme.

Sunday’s splash art also shows him wielding the abilities he had as ‘The Great Septimus’ boss in the Penacony Trailblaze Missions, which hints at what we can expect from the animations of his abilities.

The caption for Sunday’s reveal also reads: “The dream of the Order has dissipated, yet there are still those who will not give up on their original intent.” Alongside some mysterious elements like ethereal vines and a golden feather present in his splash art, we can expect to see some form of twisted redemption for Sunday in the next chapter of his story.

Will Sunday and Robin be reunited? Where will his journey take him next? Will he ever stop telling us that story about the Charmony Dove? We can’t wait for all our questions about Sunday to be answered when he finally gets released as a playable character in Honkai: Star Rail version 2.7!

Sunday is likely not the only new character coming in version 2.7, with at least one more new character expected to be revealed on Wednesday (October 9). Honkai: Star Rail version 2.7 is expected to be released some time in December.
