A Chinese company has given its employees time off to play Black Myth: Wukong.

Black Myth: Wukong, an action-RPG based on the classic Chinese story Journey to the West, has officially launched this week. One Chinese company was excited enough about the game to give all of its employees time off to play it, according to a post circulating on Reddit.

However, their day off does come with a few conditions - and Xbox users need not apply.

Chinese company gives employees time off to play Black Myth Wukong

A post by Twitter/X user Orikron has recently begun circulating Reddit, displaying a memo from a company called Chengdu Science and Technology. According to the translated letter, the company was giving all of its employees a day off to play Black Myth: Wukong on its release day, August 20. The translation states that this was to give employees time to “study” the game, but it is possible that its translation is slightly off the mark here.

However, the company does have a few rules for employees who want to enjoy this little benefit. The letter states that only those who have pre-ordered Black Myth: Wukong or have used the game’s PC benchmark tool to test performance will be able to take time off. They will also have to submit evidence that they have done so to human resources.

Hilariously, the company also asks that Xbox Series X|S console owners “do not fish eye mixed ball.” According to another Reddit comment, this appears to be a rough translation of a Chinese idiom that means something closer to “trying to pass off a fish eye as a pearl.” This is in reference to the fact that Black Myth: Wukong has been indefinitely delayed on Xbox consoles for optimisation. Hence, Xbox owners would not have access to the game on release day at all.

Black Myth: Wukong launched this week to tremendous success, rocketing past games like Palworld and Counter-Strike 2 on Steam charts with more than 2.13 million concurrent players.
