The Sims 4 adds non-monogamous Woohooing
If you’ve been itching for more romantic options for your Sims, we have some very good news. The Sims 4’s next expansion pack is called Lovestruck, and it adds a ton of new features including the Cupid’s Corner dating app, Sim turn-ons and turn-offs and a Romantic Boundaries system. The latter system will arrive as a free update for all players, allowing them to adjust how jealous Sims get when their partners date other people.
Here’s how developer Maxis describes the Romantic Boundaries system:
Free for all players is the new Romantic Boundaries system that will allow you to customise your Sim's experience with boundaries and jealousy. You can now define how your Sims approach romantic relationships in terms of physical and emotional romantic exclusivity. This allows for Sims to date multiple Sims without impact to other relationships.
This will be a welcome addition for players who historically have had to use mods to allow their Sims to date more than one person at a time, without their Sims becoming jealous and unhappy about it. Not only that, but the new update will also allow players to put their Sims in polycultures and non-monogamous relationships, allowing for more diverse expressions of romance in the game.
The Lovestruck expansion also adds a new city to explore in the form of Ciudad Enamorada - a place filled with potential date spots for Sims. A new Cupid’s Corner app will also allow Sims to match with other Sims in the dating scene, at which point they’ll have to navigate four different ‘Romance Dynamics’: Wholesome, Steamy, Strained, and Unpredictable. These are essentially four different kinds of relationships which Sims can fall into, as they socialise and unlock new romantic interactions with other Sims.
Sims also now have turn-ons and turn-offs, which decide who they feel attracted to based on existing Sim traits. Two new romantic traits are also coming with the expansion, and Sims can now become Romance Consultants to find love for other Sims.
The Sims 4: Lovestruck launches on July 25 for $40, along with a free update to add the game’s new Romantic Boundaries system. Find more details on EA’s blog here.
