Amazon’s expensive Lord of the Rings prequel returns for a second season this year.
Amazon Prime Video has dropped its first trailer for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2, which depicts the return of Sauron to Middle-earth. Sauron was revealed to be posing as a human last season only to be discovered by Galadriel, but the villain returns this season in another, rather more fetching, disguise.

The Rings of Power teases Sauron’s elvish makeover and more ominous rings
Amazon Prime Video has finally dropped a first look at The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2, which seems to feature approximately 200% more Sauron than before. The Dark Lord returns this season after posing as the human Halbrand, as he continues to manipulate the inhabitants of Middle-earth into creating more rings for his benefit.
The trailer above shows the return of most of Season 1’s main cast of characters, including Galadriel, Elrond, Adar, Arondir, the Stranger and more. We see multiple rings in the hands of elves while another is gifted to King Durin, and the main cast gearing up for a battle in a shadowy forest. We also see one of the Great Eagles from the main book trilogy greeting the king of Numenor, Pharazon.
Season 1 of The Rings of Power was rather slow-moving, with more focus placed on the series’ central mysteries and worldbuilding, but this season seems to be a lot more straightforward. Sauron’s back to cause chaos, and our heroes are somehow going to have to put a stop to his evildoing. Amazon’s description for Season 2 is as follows:
In Season Two of The Rings of Power, Sauron has returned. Cast out by Galadriel, without army or ally, the rising Dark Lord must now rely on his own cunning to rebuild his strength and oversee the creation of the Rings of Power, which will allow him to bind all the peoples of Middle-earth to his sinister will. Building on Season One’s epic scope and ambition, the new season plunges even its most beloved and vulnerable characters into a rising tide of darkness, challenging each to find their place in a world that is increasingly on the brink of calamity. Elves and dwarves, orcs and men, wizards and Harfoots… as friendships are strained and kingdoms begin to fracture, the forces of good will struggle ever more valiantly to hold on to what matters to them most of all… each other.
The Rings of Power Season 2 will have a three-episode premiere on August 29, with new episodes debuting weekly afterwards. In the meantime, you can catch up on Fallout.
