Marvel has dropped a more Hugh Jackman-focused trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine.
Marvel Studios has released a new trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine, the superhero team up that sees its titular duo star in a movie together for the first time since the infamous X-Men Origins: Wolverine. This trailer finally gives viewers a first look at Hugh Jackman’s return as Wolverine, though he might not be the hero they were expecting to see.
Here’s the trailer:
Deadpool & Wolverine trailer has portals, cameos and Loki tie-ins
Marvel Studios’ official trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine dives into the second half of the titular team up, with Hugh Jackman reprising his role as the X-Men superhero for the first time since 2017’s Logan. The trailer starts out with Deadpool trying to persuade Wolverine to join him for a mysterious cause, only to be confronted by the fact that the former hero isn’t quite who he used to be.
We’re later told that this version of Wolverine, “let down his entire world,” and is now widely-despised, seemingly confirming that this is a new and alternate variant of the character. He seems even more grizzled and surly than ever before, if that’s even possible, and gets into a rather violent tussle with Deadpool himself later in the trailer.
It’s not clear what exactly Deadpool needs Wolverine for this time around, only that he’s, “about to lose everything he cares about,” which places the gun-toting mercenary in a desperate situation. Deadpool and Wolverine eventually team up on an unknown mission that sees them dive into a mysterious portal and confront the movie’s main villain, played by Emma Corrin.
We also see a few cameos scattered around the trailer. A giant-sized skeletal corpse of Ant-Man has been transformed into a lair seemingly populated by old X-Men villains, including Lady Deathstrike, Azazel and Toad. We also see the smoke monster Alioth return from Disney+’s Loki series in this trailer, chasing down Deadpool and Wolverine.
This is a fun trailer, and while it seems to give away many of the movie’s cameos, it doesn’t give away much of the main story by comparison. All we know is that the Time Variance Authority, also returning from Loki, needs Deadpool for a high-stakes mission. That brings him to Wolverine, which leads to a confrontation with Corrin’s character.
Deadpool & Wolverine hits theatres on July 26. Shawn Levy directs a cast including Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, Emma Corrin, Morena Baccarin and Matthew MacFayden. A new poster for the movie has also been released:
