Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater remake reportedly set for imminent reveal

Metal Gear Solid 3 is getting a remake for Xbox, PlayStation and PC platforms.

Konami is reviving a long-dormant gaming franchise: Metal Gear Solid. According to a new report from Windows Central, the publisher is set to announce a remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, the iconic 2004 game originally created by Hideo Kojima.

This report falls in line with previous rumours that Konami was seeking to revive its major franchises like Metal Gear Solid, Castlevania and Silent Hill with new remakes and sequels. VGC originally reported that a Metal Gear Solid 3 remake was in the works, and Windows Central has ‘hard-confirmed’ that it’s a multi-platform title that won’t be a PlayStation exclusive.

However, the game has signed a marketing deal with PlayStation, so it could still end up being a timed exclusive in the vein of newer Final Fantasy games. In any case, it is very likely that we’ll see the remake show up at Sony’s big State of Play presentation happening early tomorrow morning (4am MYT), where the publisher plans to show an hour’s worth of footage from upcoming games for the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation VR2.

Hideo Kojima is no longer with Konami following the duo’s infamous fallout, so it’s likely that he won’t be involved with this remake in any capacity. Kojima is instead working on Death Stranding 2 and a secret horror game for Xbox called Overdose, while Konami is working on new Silent Hill games, an unannounced Castlevania game, and this Metal Gear Solid 3 remake.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is set during the Cold War, following Snake as he heads into the wilderness of Tselinoyarsk on a dangerous mission. The U.S. and U.S.S.R. are close to waging nuclear war, and Snake will have to sneak into the bowels of hostile territory to sabotage third parties scheming to stoke the fires of war. Kojima’s Metal Gear Solid titles are regarded as some of the best and most influential games in history, so a remake of Snake Eater has great potential, to say the least.
